as i pointed out in the previous topics, i've read this article and rather than independent questioning she just rehashes a few old conspiracy theories and then even more worrying makes up a scare on GBS when no such scare or evidence exists, i'd stick to seeing nuns in church rather than in scientific presentations after reading her

If all the doctors were refusing a drug/vaccine that would be more significant not a politician!

if you start from that position before the science then you're in trouble, thats partly where wakefield fell down, he'd decided the results of his 'study' before he'd done it and that just isn't acceptable in scienctific methods
Legacy of 'junk science' affecting vaccine uptake 10:30am on 11 Dec 2009 unfortunately the media, some worse than others (stand up the daily mail) much prefer a scare story, no matter how implausible or scientifically rubbish it is, to the facts - real science is often boring and as much papers aren't interested, someone comes out with a theory that scares people and its news even if its rubbish and unfortunately many people will believe it

now fair enough they will have a club with debts but those debts will remain on the club not them
over the next few years they will use the TV money and some careful transfer dealings to pay those debts off and in 5 years time you may well have a debt free club which is run reasonably well

what you won't be doing is buying big, challenging for europe or anything like that, it'll be a race for survival every season i'm afraid
Swine flu 'less lethal than was feared' 11:11pm on 10 Dec 2009 apology if any of the posters above thought i was having a go at them personally as i didn't mean it like that, but i get the feeling some posters will try to use the fact the death rate is lower than feared as a reason to dismiss the health service work and vaccine programme as unnecessary when imo it clearly was and still is, swine flu is, for the majority a not very nice but mild illness, but, in the majority it can be fatal and just because most don't die doesn't mean we shouldn't try and stop the few that may die from that fate

most people who play russian roulette don't get a bullet, most people who smoke don't get lung cancer - does that mean its safe to play russian roulette or smoke?

is the low death rate any consolation to the parents of the children that have died? just because most people are lucky doesn't mean all are

Death rates and mutations 10:55pm on 30 Nov 2009 anti-virals work depending on their action vs the virus concerned

tamiflu and this anti-viral work in a specific way such that they only work for the flu and resistance against one may mean the other doesn't work so well either

other anti-virals include acyclovir/famcyclovir for herpes simplex, chicken pox and the HIV group of anti-virals (too many to list)

and the 10 day thing isn't official guidance as to how long to keep a kid off its an observational thing from looking at swine flu cases and the duration of virus shedding, and remember its 10 days from ONSET of symptoms not the peak which can often be a few days later from the first symptoms
