Olympic ideals survive Chambers challenge 3:17pm on 18 Jul 2008 Hope we invite Chambers to compete for Portugal. His Portuguese language skills are totally irrelevant as he would serve us very honourably and would do his very best to bring home a few more medals. The Olympics are just another competition where the aim is to win and achieve glory and not to pander to too many morals. Compete for Portugal! You are welcome Mr Chambers!
Chambers controversy could help athletics 10:56pm on 15 Jul 2008 If Chambers is not allowed to compete then hope Portugal invite to compete. I don't care if he doesn't speak our language. The Olympics are about winning medals and since they are already a huge farce by being held in a country like China then maybe we can help making it more of a farce by having a non-Portuguese competing and winning medals for us!

Unfortunately we are. Which means more wasted money just as in 2004 and a hugely overcrowded country (especially the Algarve) for a whole month.

Anyway if there's one team Ronaldo shouldn't go to then that's Real Madrid. Real Madrid are the best representatives of anti-Portuguese feeling in Spain and have never ever recognised our independence, language and culture. Ronaldo should be much more serious about his nationality and rule out a move to Real Madrid. That said he's fine at Manutd and only his blind pursuit for even more money is keeping him from thinking rationally. Hopefully he stays and is then kept in the bench for the whole season so he learns who's the boss. And if he still complains about slavery then I suggest he swaps job with a civil servant or a plumber or a soldier in Afghanistan so that he learns a few lessons about life.
From the Commons to Lord's 9:16pm on 09 Jul 2008 Why am I away from the UK for the whole summer? I'm so looking forward to this Test series and the TMS box will be as lively as ever! Why can't the BBC broadcast TMS to outside the UK? I would have no problem at all paying a subscription just to get TMS wherever in the world I am. Hope England win but am really scared of Steyn. He will probably tear the England batting apart and that will hurt a lot. But hopefully Vaughan and co raise their game and then play consistently...

The Spanish will choke again as usual. That said I'm not very interested in Euro 2008 anymore and bring on 2010 and hopefully we will do better than in 2006!

Accuse of me of being a sore loser but I have to disagree with you. Germany rarely attacked and when they did they scored although our defence and keeper are to blame in one or two goals. We attacked all the time yet were not as efficient as the Germans. We would have won had we not committed so many schoolboy mistakes at the back. Germany were lucky our defence let us down thus helping them win. They won and fair enough because they took the few chances they had unlike us who had so many chances and only converted two of them. But the Germans were far from "largely excellent". Again the Germans were very efficient yesterday but only because of another schoolboy mistake by a keeper who clearly didn't learn anything from our defeat. Russia or Spain will give the Germans the toughest test of the tournament and then they are gonna lose. Hope it's Russia that goes all the way.

My objection to Turkey being in Euro 2008 and other European competitions has to do with Turkey not being in Europe. Same with Israel, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia. And if you're wondering, I'm not white so take your generalisations elsewhere. And it's got nothing to do with Turks being Moslems. There are countries in Europe with Moslem majorities (Kosovo is an example) but they should be allowed in European competitions because they are in Europe. Australia is in Oceania and so should compete against Oceanian teams not Asian ones. Furthermore I'm not talking about race. There are Portuguese people who are darker than Turks and vice-versa. My objection to Turkey being in European competitions is purely geographical....

Let football be the winner 11:54am on 25 Jun 2008 I don't think the Turkish fans (including the ones in Germany) will be very amused at the treatment of their team in comparison to that of Germany. UEFA have refused to let Turkey call up new players despite allowing the Germans to do so in 1996. Plus UEFA have decided to keep the tow-match ban on Volkan despite giving just one-match ban to Schweinsteiger. Both players had committed the same foul. And to make it clear I'm not saying all this just because we lost to Germany last week. We lost because of our rubbish keeper and defence not because of UEFA's help towards the big countries. Whatever the result tonight I won't be surprised if there are race riots in Germany. That said I hope Turkey win tonight so that the franco-german axis in UEFA lose thus making Euro 2008 even more of a farce by having the first non-European team to reach the final of a EURO Cup.
