Dozing and Diving 2:06pm on 25 Feb 2009 There was very minimal contact in the Raphael v Pederson incident. Especially when you compare it to the unbelievable mauling seen at the San Siro last night on a certain Bulgarian Forward.

For the 10 seconds before Ronaldo squared the ball across the face (second half when Giggs just missed it when sliding in) Cordoba was doing nothing less than assaulting the guy! He looked like an aged drunk trying to have a scrap after 18 pints. Defenders get away with a LOT in the penalty area, because of the reluctance of officials to make themselves the centre of attention by awarding penalties. How often do you hear the words "anywhere else on the pitch and thats a nailed on free kick" muttered during commentaires? Should there be a difference?

I personally thought Pedersen went down way too easily, but if we apply the letter of the law then it was a penalty. If only the players themselves would take the responsibility on their own shoulders to cut out the simulation! Especially as once you have a reputation for it you end up getting decisions go against you when there was a clear infrengement against you, so in the long run there is probably no advantage gained anyway!

Can anyone ever take anything with a pinch of salt any more, or is it now the automatic reaction to feel like you have to moan about every deviation from 100% PC?

Maybe he should have fights against others that wont improve his resume?!? This is boxing, not a job interview!

aAnd quoting better resume's for guys who have been in the heavyweight game for 10 years is simply ridiculous! Of course they've fought better fighters in their career, the division has been much better over the last decade than it is now, and they've HAD THE OPPORTUNITY.

Are you seriously suggesting that Peters would be a tougher opponent for Vitali or Wlad than Haye?!?

Nobody on here has disputed that Vitali is a class act and a very good heavyweight. However if you are suggesting there are bigger and better fights than Haye out there then you are sadly mistaken. Haye is someone who has genuine speed at the weight, which is rare. He also has potential knock out power in both hands, and suggesting he is not in the top 5 punchers at the weight is nonsense. Can you list 5 bigger hitters?!?

I think Haye has an outside chance at causing an upset here, he has tools that Vitalie wont have come up against too often and I think it will be a good fight whatever the outcome!

And I bet that you are a huge fan of Mayweather too?!? He never comes across as the cocky man whose in it for the rewards rather than the love of the sport does he?!? and if you excuse him because of his exceptional talent then you are a complete hypocrite!

The boxing game is no longer about gentlemanly conduct and touching gloves, the fact is that every single fight has this "they hate each other" build up which as soon as the final bell goes you can see was a total ticket selling sham. See Hattons and paulie's press conference when Paulie was having a pop and Hatton said "I thought we were friends" you can see the wry smile Paulie pulled, knowing he was talking nonsense! Haye is simply playing up to it and suggesting that he is offending anyone with the "head" shot is simply buying into the ridiculous PC culture and taking a free chance at taking a shot at the guy. Do you really think Haye himself mocked the photo up or do you think maybe...just maybe...it was done by someone involved in the promotion?!?

With all the criticism of fighters ducking the tough contests (see Z force Harrisons last 8 years) do you not appreciate the refreshing attitude of taking on all comers that Haye displays?!?

Take your bias and go home...I for one hope your TV breaks on the night of the fight!
Liverpool may fall short in title tilt 1:52pm on 14 Aug 2008 Good article Phil.

I think Keane will be a good addition to the Liverpool set up, he is the type of player who will help Torres continue to flourish. Smart around the edge of the box and works the line very well creating spaces.

However, I also cant see Liverpool mounting a serious challenge to United or Chelsea. Their best 11 will give anyone a game but the strength in depth is not quite there. Bringing on players like Pennant and Voronin is not going to change many games in an instant, they are good players but not massive impact players like those at the disposal of messers ferguson and Scolari.

The flanks has been a constant problem during Rafa's reign, and I think this was highlighted again last night. They looked too narrow and exposed when Standard did spread the play and make use of the full width of the pitch.

I agree with Phil that they will probably take some silverware this season, but I very much doubt it will be the much sought after Premiership.

And as a slight reposte to some of the other comments, just how successful was this 4-5-1 you seem to enjoy so much?

I wouldnt consider last season to be any sort of success for a club of Liverpools stature and maybe making some changes to the fundamentals might not be a bad idea??
The best transfer of the summer 1:50pm on 04 Aug 2008 Maybe could have had a bit more research than focusing mainly on ex premiership players in the Championship, with the LEague One and Two sections appearing as nothing more than a side note once more.

My hope for League 2 signing of the year would be our stealing of McLaren. Top assists in League one last year, turned down a renewal from tranmere to come to us and hopefully will help us justify favouritism for the top!

Surely a player dropping down a league and turning down several offers from clubs a division higher might have been noticed Beeb research team?

Michael Boudling did the same? no?
