Biases, U-turns, and the BBC's climate coverage 4:46pm on 14 Oct 2009 Yertizz - I think the BBC's position (that "‘There may be now a broad scientific consensus that climate change is definitely happening and that it is at least predominantly man-made… the weight of evidence no longer justifies equal space being given to the opponents of the consensus’.") is in keeping with the reality on Planet Earth, as opposed to any other solar satellite some may be inhabiting. Richard's expansion of the point in his reply shows that it is reasonably fair. The BBC isn't going to give 'equal time' to what is, very clearly, a rather small minority. At the moment - if things change, then I'm sure the treatment will change.

One wonders what your beef is until one reads "...admit the BBC has been wasting millions of pounds of licence-fee payers' money promulgating left-wing propaganda!"

Ah, one understands your pain.

My feeling now is that probably the media was looking for a meaty story (I'm a journalist too, you know!) and Monty needs to work on the PR side a bit.
Or maybe he has already and was even more cheesed off than he indicated...

Or did your blog miss out something crucial - the question that was asked that prompted the expression of disappointment.
Why, as a matter of interest, does the difference of opinion between Monty and Westwood over the latter's failure to turn up for the Vivendi Trophy not merit any significant coverage, in your eyes - certainly not the big jobbie you've delivered here?

PS - Well said, andybarc. But why, I wonder, doesn't that article wax just as lyrical about Lyle's disqualification for a blatant rules infringement in a European Tour event some years ago?

How does the media scrum develop once Tiger is out of the way? Do they zip straight over to another group or do they spread out across the field?

And were you close enough to the McIlroy/Kim?Goosen group to gather whether Rory's game became unsteady through annoyance with Kim or was it just one of those things?
Pick your classic Hungarian Grand Prix 2:14pm on 16 Jul 2009 1989 - one of the great overtaking moves, absolutely stunning. But only the last in a series of them as Mansell worked his way up from 13th (I think) on the grid.

Otherwise, Damon Hill in an Arrows overtaking Schumacher in a Ferrari - a great moment, then heartbreak on the last lap.

(I'm assuming the overtaking move will not be overlaid by a commercial break, as happened on the ITV live coverage...)

I haven't seen Federer hit a 300-yards-plus drive straight down the middle, or a 3-wood 260 yards that lands like a butterfly with sore feet, or sink a 12-foot putt to get into a Major playoff.

Could be Federer isn't a complete sportsman after all - merely the best at what he does.
