How Rover executives pocketed £42m 11:12pm on 10 Sep 2009 I'm betting most of it is notional pension value, so not actual money per se. £16m though to work that out? Without even looking at the government role in it? An expensive way to Hutton NuLab's involvement.
Government not defeated 10:24pm on 07 Jul 2009 Is this the most incompetent government ever? They have a Prime Minister who claims that, in a recession where people have less and less money, he will INCREASE spending and thinks that's an election-winning strategy. Cabinet ministers are too callow and spineless to stab him in the back themselves, just resigning at him and hoping someone else will step forward, and now backbenchers refuse to revolt because of a baseless threat that this imperils the entire national budget.

For some reason the words organize, brewery, up and couldn't come to mind.

A call for debate 1:10pm on 10 Jun 2009 Wow, Brown has already reneged on the referendum promise. Is this a record?
A call for debate 9:28pm on 09 Jun 2009 Strangely enough Mr Brown and his predecessors seemed to think the voting system was OK when Labour was given majority after majority. Now that they have been destroyed in the European elections and facing the same in a general election he wants to change it.

One wonders whether this referendum will be the same as the Lisbon referendum. I.e. not a referendum at all, they will change the name to Vote Idol or something and claim that it is totally different.

Still, at least we now know the price Mr Brown paid to stop Alan Johnson from challenging him for power.

YouTube row reflects online minefield 9:03pm on 09 Mar 2009 The insane thing is that youtube is the perfect way to discover new music. I've just put down a tenner for a CD by a band I discovered through youtube (The Joy Formidable, in case you are interested). That's £10 that might have been lost to the industry had there not been their videos up on youtube.

There needs to be a new delivery model for music. For years the industry sold the same thing in different formats - 45, LP, tape, CD and now digital. They've run out now and can't make money from the same thing. A subscription model might be the way forward; but without being able to get music "out there" who will ever know? The industry ought to be counting its lucky stars that it's the only one that gets PAID to advertise (after all, what is airplay other than advertisements for the music?), but low quality streaming footage is hardly going to impact on profits. The record companies acknowledged this, the PRS evidently has not...or are they the easy target for the record companies to squeeze?
