Froch and fans frustrated 6:09pm on 19 Oct 2009 Here are Allan Green's thoughts on the fight:

As far as AndreDirrell and Carl Froch goes [Froch won a split decision], it was what I expected again. I expected Froch to win a decision. Dirrell is very talented and I think he depends on that a little too much. Once he learns how to settle down a little bit and really learns how to fight I think he'll be a beast.

BT: Do you think Dirrell won the fight?

AG: No. By no means. I had it 7-4 with one even [with the point deduction that would be 116-112 for Froch]. Anybody who thinks Dirrell won the fight should have their eyes checked. I like Andre, he's my boy, but you can't go over there with special effects that have no substance behind them. You can't throw a bunch of unmeaningful shots, land one and expect to win the fight. Yeah, that's how we won a lot of our amatuer fights, but this is professional boxing. Do I think he's capable of beating Froch? Yes. Did he do it the other night? No.

And I have to say that I agree with him.
Froch's rocky road to recognition 4:12pm on 17 Oct 2009 Be, a case could be made that there were marquee names in the States earlier in Calzaghe's career, though they never happened, for many a reason I guess. In Froch's case, as he is so young, relatively, there might well be future marquee names for him later on, should he come through this tough tournament in tact.

Interesting that many are going for Agraham tonight, including Jimmy Jr amongst others. Just to say also that Pascal thinks Froch will simply be too tough for Dirrell tonight, though he concedes Dirrell's speed will make it v interesting a bout.

Re tv showings... I'm v lucky in that I'm in Poland, and Polsat Sport is showing all the fights, it's a monthly fee but is included in the basic rate for 550 tv channels... so I'll be watching live at a mate's place. Polsat has an interesting stance on buying tv rights for sports: they go with what is (more) popular, all boxing 'galas' as they call them - from many countries - are shown live here. Brill! They don't cover minority sports (bowls, fly-fishing etc...) but listen to their 'clients'' wishes... the BBC couldn't put on such things on BBC1 or 2, but then they have 3,4,5,6 and 7...(?)!

So I'll be watching and credit to Polish TV Directors who seem more in touch with their 'consumers'' wishes!

Froch's rocky road to recognition 8:04pm on 16 Oct 2009 I simply don't understand the mentality of those who criticise Froch for his so-called lack of boxing skills, given all the positives - WBC champ, exciting fights, and now putting it all on the line in the Super Six.

I also don't know how some can say he's arrogant. He really doesn't come across as that to me. My interpretation of his comments regarding Haglar, Hearns and SRL, are that he would fancy his chances against them. For a current world champ, that seems ok to me.

Steve Bunce just said on 5Live that the promoters would like to see a Froch-Ward final, which is interesting, bigs-up Ward (do they know something we don't yet?) and for me gives more credit to Froch's boxing abilities.

I agree with many of the sentiments in your article, specially: '....the Nottingham fighter, who remains criminally undervalued in his own country....', and the above comments such as: 'Dunno why but I really can't stand froch' only point out how inanely prejudiced are many of the so-called supporters of boxing, if they can be called that. It seems that the average boxing supporter puts more value on whether he likes or dislikes a personality than on any objective evaluation of a boxer's skills. It's very discomforting. Fans of other sports recognise good play and skills from the opposition or in other sportsmen, not so it appears your average boxing fan...

Froch is doing just fine, he has his strengths (power, heart, resilience) and his weaknesses (defence, low hands), but all boxers have their strengths and weaknesses. Froch is champ is well-spoken and composed in his words, in my opinion he is exactly the opposite of 'smug and obsessed', as the poster above comments...

It will be a great competition and many of these bouts will be hard to call - all for the good.

...gone 9:40pm on 15 Oct 2009 The details of MP's expenses will continue to come out... but the response from some MPs has been extraordinary. One sitting said on Radio 5Live recently that he was claiming for - amongst other items - a shaver. And he genuinely seemed peeved that he had to pay that back...

Either some of them still don't get it - ie, that they still don't understand that expenses should be 'absolutely' necessary for them to do their jobs representing their constituencies... or, that repayment for such unnecessary items is somehow a sleight on their character and therefore must be countered...

I must say, that MP's constant barracking of Clegg (and I'm not a Lib-Dem supporter) during PMQs (this time apparently after saying that the enquiry should be widened) is something of a disgrace, but it is a further indication of the stance that many MPs are taking on this... and all this with many of the people of the country in dire straits financially, and unemployment at 2.5m and still rising...

Actually, I like the guy; he seems to be an Old School Eccentric! :)
Cameron's Lisbon problem 12:56pm on 01 Oct 2009 Hi Gavin,

I'm both surprised and not surprised about David Cameron's stance on Europe: surprised because the vast majority of the countries of Europe recognise how much they need each other in a host of areas (trade, cultural identity, defence, to name just a few), but also, not surprised in that the Tories, as do the Poles, see Europe as a threat somehow, in terms of jobs, and laws coming out of Brussls.

For me, Europe is a goldmine of opportunity for all peoples who live and work in a united Europe: freedom of movement, the exchange of cultural and technical ideas, and the powerful ideal of strength in unity.
Khan fighting a losing battle? 9:50pm on 16 Jul 2009 That's ok Ben, thanks for getting back, but some kind of acknowledgment of the measured arguments (either way) might help steer the discussion towards the real discussion that is taking place - meaning Khan's merits as a boxer at this level? You're right about (the policy of) not posting those other comments, and that's all well and good.

Ben, is it ofay to ask if you have your own prediction on the outcome of this bout? Do you feel Khan will outbox Kotelnik to a points win, or even a stoppage, or whether you feel Kotelnik might come on strong at some stage and win it?

Concerning the anti-Muslim thing, Danny Williams was v well supported by many many people, a Muslim, took defeats and was still supported, even loved in that 'which Danny will turn up?' kind of way.

I feel v uncomfortable about this subject, I know it exists, and the vids on YouTube are a disgrace, but boxing fans know they are a disgrace. It's about all the things people have said above.

A public relations disaster for Khan, and as Audley Harrison found out, it's v hard to came back from that - the only way now is to beat everyone he meets, meaning Prescott again, Diaz etc and of couse, starting with a convincing win over Kotelnik... if he does, he'll have support in abundance and rightly so.
