Colin Todd - football's fire fighter 3:44pm on 27 Aug 2009 Godd luck to Toddy at Darlo. He will get them playing good football in time just as he did at Bolton.I'd swap him for Megson now if thats on offer by the way.
Has Arsenal borrowed too much? 2:30pm on 14 Jul 2009 The drift of players to Spain over the last 6 months has been fascinating. So many players came to the Premiership when the Euro was around 1.4 to the pound and the top rate of tax was 40%. With the Euro now only worth around 1.15 to the pound and the top rate of tax on their marginal earnings a whopping 50% these poor destitutes are looking at around 30% less in their Euro bank accounts than 3 years ago. Throw in the Spanish Revenue's latest stunt (Spanish practice?) of Foreign Executive status then they pay tax at 24%. None of these players are financial geniuses but they all have advisors hence Real and Barca are the latest El Dorado. Whilst these 2 fight it out next season to see who can shoot the most fish in the La Liga barrel, at least the Premiership will have 4, possibly 5 teams pushing hard for the title with a solid undercard of Villa and Everton keeping them on their toes.We complain about the same old teams at the top of the league, the Spanish league is worse than the old Scottish First Division before they changed that.
Is Owen still worth a gamble? 4:51pm on 15 Jun 2009 Given the number of games Owen played last season, how is it that he was so dire in front of goal? The guy is 2 hamstrings short of being a Premier league striker these days. Perhaps he should consider a move to Preston or Tranmere if he wants a North West home and some easy pickings.
Barry gets England talking 4:27pm on 03 Jun 2009 Gareth Barry is applying a touch of realism at 28 years of age. Good player as he is the Liverpool saga last Summer probably brought home to him the fact that he is not in the very top drawer. So does he stick with Villa who find themselves in the UEFA Cup again or does he chase the money whilst he has the offer? Given the inevitable discovery by a small squad that the UEFA Cup is a distraction in the Spring it does beg the question as to why clubs bust a gut to get into that position only to throw it all away for the prospect of the next 3 points. Realistically Barry will be playing in the UEFA Cup again in 2011 when he is 30, the attainment of a top 4 place by City is not feasible. His game will not greatly suffer as time goes by, if you have no pace, you can't lose it. He does right to take the cash and I wish him well.

The footie fiasco on ITV. 08:24am on 06 Feb 2009 High moral ground over Gaza disaster appeal, sacking a silly woman over a silly comment, allowing an idiot like Clarkson to work for them. What next for the BBC? The answer is, Urban Myths. The goal that ITV blanked out ("oh, by the way they had the TV rights not us") was shown live in homes up and down the land but, hey, don't let the facts get in the way of a good story. Pathetic.
Big Sam is back 09:44am on 18 Dec 2008 Walked out on Notts County.Walked out on Bolton. Sacked by Newcastle. All 3 teams left in a mess by Allardyce.
The last two and a half years at Bolton showed how limited a manager he is. It will be interesting to see how he gets on without either Sammy Lee or Phil Brown. I would have liked to see the look on Santa Cruz's face when he heard the news.
Frankie's early exit hangs heavy 09:09am on 08 Aug 2008 Is this one of the "good causes" that National Lottry funding goes towards?
Somehow it makes me think of pilots putting in a few years in the RAF at the taxpayers' expense before joining commercial airlines.
