No defence for 'stealing' music 3:04pm on 03 Jul 2008 The BPI mentions tracking people (i.e. IP addresses) on P2P networks. However, I would guess that most people now get illegal music from links to 'hosting sites' such as rapidshare, Megaupload etc. from blogs on the web. Do a Google search, for example, the following:

"[Album name] blog download"

and most of the time it will take you to a blog that has a rapidshare or megaupload link for the album in question.

I suppose ISPs will eventually block access to these hosting sites.

1. Scrap the nonsense that is DRM
2. Have all songs encoded at 320kbps in the three main compression formats (mp3, wma, AAC).
3. Sites selling songs should offer the option to download either format.
4. Reduce RRP considerabley for albums that are downloaded (i.e. £4.49 for a new release, £3.49 for older releases).

The current practice of selling a download album with DRM for £7.49 when the CD costs £7.99 is nonsense.
Facebook over? Only in Islington 12:40pm on 30 Jun 2008 Internet 'fads' come and go. I remember a few years ago how everyone was joining friendsreunited and raving about it. I would guess that most of those people haven't visited the site for years and probably never will do again.

In ten years time people will be saying "Do you remember facebook?"
DRM is dead, long live DRM 12:12pm on 30 Jun 2008 DRM is dying. MSN decision to stop supporting DRM music bought from their online store is another nail in it's coffin. Basically, unless you intend to keep using the same PC and operating system for a very long time, the music purchased from MSN will be worthless.

The way forward is to offer quality (320kbps) DRM free music BUT at a much cheaper price than a physical copy of the music would cost. If download albums were offered at a much cheaper rate (e.g. £4.99) than a physical copy, there would be a huge surge in legal downloading. Amazon is taking a lead (at least in the US at the moment), but the big stumbling black is still the cost.
Do we all need a nudge? 1:49pm on 27 Jun 2008 #19 What complete nonsense. This will only encourage people to drop litter, safe in the knowledge that some mug will come and pick it up for them.
