Aussies send Ashes warning 10:04am on 12 Mar 2009 tass1968 - does live in a different world.....
Australia are improving as a team every hour they spend on field playing test cricket...while England seems to be slipping down....also England come into Ashes from loosing two away series while Australia come on a high from beating Safrica away.
Englands fast bowling attack is the issue...Ausssie fast bowling attack has got Johnson,Siddle,Hilfaneaus with Lee and Clark to come back...while England need to make up a bowling attack from Anderson,Sidebottom,Harmison,Amjad and an injured Flintoff....so if i were Aussie..i wouldn't loose sleep with that...
Swann/Panesar does give England an edge over whatever the Aussie spin team would be.
Now when it comes to batting...i think the teams are evenly balanced...Strauss,Cook,Pietersen,Colly etc...over a few new faces in Hughes,North and Ponting,hussey,Katich,Clarke
England doesnot have a recognised number 3 - Shah/Bell v/s Ponting is not a contest is it..?
The icing on the cake is wicket keeper issue...for the benefit of ECB - a wicket keeper needs to do his primary duty i.e keeping to win a test match...speak no more...
Beware a wounded Australia 1:09pm on 10 Nov 2008 Well now that the series in India is over...it is all Ashes talk....i am at a loss as to why the English fans and Sir Ian thinks England will win over Australia easily. In a cheeky way the first seeds of doubt or the first punch is being thrown by the media and good ol Botham.
On retrospection England team will know that they really need to work hard to win the Ashes back.
Openers - India got the initial advantage from sehwag and gambhir.both of these guys are attacking players and we all know how quickly they score and demoralise the attack. Strauss and Cook are a long way off this.
Vaughan -i would say is struggling.
Pietersen/Bell/Collingwood/Shah - Can they make consitent big scores with similar impact to what Sachin/laxman/Ganguly did. On paper they can but on field it has not happened yet.
Freddie - Can he be fit ? Could he be back to Ashes 2005 form.Aus will have Symmonds back and Watson has improved greatly as a cricketer.
Lee/Clarke/Johnson will come back.Lee and Clarke had an off series.It needs to be see if Harmison/Anderson/Sidebottom can get reverse/conventional swing which will challenge the Aussies.In 2005 it was Jones/Hoggie/Freddie who used this to dangerous effect.
Krjeza will grow and it needs to be seen if Monty can be back.This India tour will be make or break for Monty.
So all in all England are a long long way off from an easy Ashes win.They can start to believe that Aussies are beatable but that belief will need to backed up with solid performances.May be they can take a leaf out of Indian book and start to get under the Aussie skin and practice... winning tosses...,slow down the Aussie overrate ...etc..!!
The end of a cricketing era 4:01pm on 22 Oct 2008 from an indian perspective - i think it is good that Ganguly is leaving..we have to get Rohit sharma/Kaif into the side and play them alongside the other fab 4 for the England and Pakistan series.perfect sub continent pitches to get youngsters.personally i would give kumble the hack and get Mishra/chawla in that space.also leave out Dravid ocasionally and build up Badrinath and Virat Kohli. Yuvraj i think will have to wait till sachin/laxman retires.he cannot play spin.
The end of a cricketing era 11:35am on 22 Oct 2008 Fantastic article. I am an Indian fan and more importantly an ardent supporter of good test cricket.I am very happy with the Indian performance and one can only hope that this Indian team shows some consitency and backs this performance with a win at Delhi.I donot think it is the end of Australian dominance,but there are shaken for sure.Spin is going to be the factor...any fast bowling line up with lee,clark,johnson,bracken,tait..etc is going to fire sooner than later.M Clarke or Symmonds has to step up to join Punter and Hussey in the batting line up.I think Haydos is fading..may be Sean Marsh,Katich...what happened to Hodge? Anyway exciting times ahead...i am looking forward to Delhi..
