Chris Kane's first post - 31/3/09 10:48pm on 03 Jun 2009 I've just found this blog. Interesting idea, and good on you for giving it a go. I've some questions. Who is this blog for? Do you imagine only BBC staff (and I put my hand-up here) will be reading, or benefit from it?

If you are writing for the public, I suggest you remove the link to Gateway page on the post about the charity climb as they are not often open to the public.

You also include quite a bit of detail in other posts, such as the Monthly Newsletter, which becomes rather indigestible towards the end. Do all the people listed feel happy about publication of their full names and job details? Short posts, with a few strong themes can help direct discussion and comment.

You could also make it easier for people to find things of interest by using more non-jargon words to tag or categorise your posts. For example "future workplace" and "one workplace" are meaningful to those who know, but "fly fishing", or "Broadcasting House" may resonate and capture the imagination more.

New Look For BBC Blogs 10:47pm on 27 Mar 2009 Nice work.

Wondering if the new look has made any observable changes in users behaviour on the blogs? Are you getting more, less, or about the same amount of readers and/or comments. And not just about new designs ;-)

Also, can you update the pics from Flickr? And move the archives to the right-hand column, increase the column widths for the More from this blog... so that the titles for "Topical Post on this blog" don't need to wrap so much. And for the staff bloggers, how about adding their bio to the list of their posts when clicking through the "latest contributors" list?
New BBC weather site launched 10:11pm on 27 Mar 2009 The site does look so much nicer, but I'm afraid I have to agree with many of the others commenting - somehow, it seems just less useful. There's too much going on each page. Seeing my weather animated isn't a big priority (OK, so it's cos my geography is too bad for those maps to be much use). Also, I'm disappointed that there is no 5 day forecast to scan, even though that's what the link from the Homepage says. Did you really have to drop a day cos of the page grid? Ouch.
On area forecast pages, why is the summary in the sidebar - under the "My Weather" and all the other stuff? Surely a summary is useful higher up the page?
The (lovely) banner background flips about depending on where I am in the site. Looks like you've set the image to sync with the time, but only on favourite locations. What's with that?

Looking forward to improvements and seeing how user feedback is factored into further development.
Will viewers choose their own running order? 9:42pm on 27 Mar 2009 This is fascinating stuff. What, if any, are the next steps for this? I got a bit lost in your last few paragraphs - where do you think this might lead? What areas would you explore next?

Do you think this could help with increasing media literacy? How does this sit with the BBC aim to provide world class journalism? I'd love to see how this would play out for different strands - sports, hyper-local services, other media partnerships as mentioned by syganymede.
