Over to you, Foreign Secretary 12:33pm on 30 Oct 2009 Pathetic desperate stuff from Labour. The rabbi's appearance on the Today programme has humiliated Miliband, who should apologise.

Not that it really matters, this is such a non-issue, a storm in a teaspoon. It is hardly "crucial to the debate about the future or Britain" - an exaggeration of staggering proportions.

Why is more being made of this issue-ette than of the disgraceful report in to the Nimrod crash? Why have ministers and senior army staff not resigned over that?
Has he got a Legg to stand on? 10:20am on 13 Oct 2009 The rule Legg was interpreting was this

"wholly, exclusively and necessarily incurred for the purposes of carrying out their duties as an MP"

THIS RULE WAS IN FORCE AT THE TIME IN QUESTION

It is not difficult to see why these troughers now need to pay back loads of money.

It is however extremely difficult to see why on earth they should be complaining about it. They are bang to rights!!! How can they possibly think they shouldn't repay these amounts?

House prices: Too good to be true? 10:20am on 02 Oct 2009 It is peculiar and frankly depressing that the pervading mentality in this country is that high and higher house prices is a good thing. Why??? Almost everyone needs to get into huge debt to "buy" a house, so why would needing yet more debt be better? Cheaper everything else is welcomed.

I fear for my children, and I am resigned to living in a small house for at least a few more years, despite a family income which apparently puts us in the top 10-15%. It's madness.

Yet my head tells me that a market with such a low level of transactions, low level of mortgage lending and crucially low level of first-time buyers, cannot be sustained, especially if interest rates rise. Anyone buying now is brave or foolish.

Who's planning what cuts? 4:03pm on 10 Jun 2009 Brown, like all Labour politicians since forever, is relying on the electorate being stupid. He has a point sadly.

So "Tory cuts" will resonate, despite the fact that it is predicated on a lie, and that there would also have to be labour cuts, and that the inevitable cuts from either side is in any case all Labour's fault for their disastrous economic mismanagement.

The tories are right, and will once again as ever be better stewards of the nation's finances, but they'd better have some better communicators than Lansley or they will be stuffed.
'A bit of a week' 12:32pm on 30 Apr 2009 Really poor judgment from Brown. And what is this about "£1.4bn" cost. Where does he get that from? That's nearly £40K per gurkha - just for giving them the right to live here? Eh?

He is becoming a laughing stock. Tories need to be careful - if he resigns they've lost their best asset!

A large part of the economic growth of the past few years has been illusory - nothing more than borrowed money taken from the future and spent today. You are right that it is unsustainable, and we must pay down this debt over time, meaning structurally lower growth.

Let us hope fervently that this will "only" mean a lowered standard of living for a few years. I fear however that the more likely scenario is a very deep and prolonged recession which will take a decade or more to recover from, and even then we will never be able to "boom" as before in a wholly changed world.

Liverpool were classy and deserving winners. Not perfect for sure, but it was close to a textbook away leg performance in Europe, soaking up oressure, quieting the crowd and maintaining control for the majority of the game.

With Gerrard to return, I back them to qualify easily. Benitez really knows what he's doing in Europe.
