The "death of death". 5:59pm on 21 Oct 2009 @57. Or is it because most other hymns are about fighting and killing those who disbelieve, or how "great" a mystical being is, or how bad we all are for not worshipping him properly, regularly, enough, or how humble and scraping we should be, or..?

In my experience lyrics from hymns are some of the worst, violent, misogynistic, pro-murder, pro-war, pro-fighting rubbish you can find anywhere. The gangsta rap of its day, methinks.
The "death of death". 5:58pm on 20 Oct 2009 More religious bleating because society is moving on and doesn't find what it needs in a bunch of people who dress in black and go around telling everyone what to think any more.

Instead of whining to us about it, why doesn't the priest just educate those coming to him with funeral plans that he considers ill fitted to his brand of supernatural mysticism? Why not just explain that the plans they have would be better suited to a non-religious send-off and recommend a secular funeral and a secular speaker?

He clearly considers these people to be unworthy of his magic, mumblings and chants, so why does he persist in providing them with an unsuitable ceremony?
Listeners' Opinion Poll 6:31pm on 06 May 2009 I'd like to ask the nation the following question...

"As they are from alcohol, pornography, drugs and voting; should children be protected from religion until they have reached the age of 18 and are responsible enough to make up their own minds?"

As you can probably guess, I passionately believe youngsters should be protected from what I consider to be the evils, guilt, violence, homophobia, misogyny and indoctrination of all forms of religion. But, I wonder if I'm really just some kind of atheist fundamentalist, so would really like to know what everyone else thinks.

Imagine a world where at age 18 people travel from church to mosque to temple to synagogue and say, "OK, I'm looking for a good religion. Tell me your religious stories and why I should believe them..." I think most 18 year-olds would stare with sheer incredulity at the story-tellers and eventually conclude they're all a load of childish and superstitious nonsense.

Religion and so most wars and conflict would just fizzle out as more and more people stare with incredulity at bunches of people stupid enough to fight over who's particular brand of mythology is the best.

You may think tech people are being smug, but they're just exasperated and a bit fed up.

Tech people give tons of advice to tons of people tons of the time, yet STILL have to fix the mess caused by smug end users who feel they can ignore the advice because "it won't happen to me" or "I'm in a hurry" or I can't be bothered" etc.

It's not the tech person's fault that the PC user can't be bothered to learn the VERY VERY VERY VERY basics of the tool they're using. For example, I'm sure you know there is a choice of tyre manufacturers for your car, yes? Well why don't you know there is a choice of browsers, OSs and other software for your PC?

It's that basic, and that stupid. If you choose to use a PC, then get off your proverbial and at least learn the VERY VERY VERY VERY basics. And stop complaining that words like "indicator", "steering wheel" and "spark plug" are techspeak...

So You are given the advice, over and over again right here (don't use MS IE), and you ignore it out of, what, stubbornness?

It's this attitude that keeps MS so prosperous and happy. In my experience. most people who suffer serious security issues know exactly what they should have done to prevent them. They just couldn't be bothered.

Like most people can't be bothered to simply change browser.
Is it safe to Explore? 5:52pm on 16 Dec 2008 The problem is, there is now a multi bi££ion pound industry setup and dedicated entirely to saving Micro$oft users from themselves.

Security software writers, installers and maintainers, anti virus software companies, PC "doctors", network engineers, PC "gurus", support lines... the list is endless. If MS products actually worked properly there would be no need for this industry to be so big.

So, do MS do their job and keep a few long-suffering end users happy, or maintain the status quo, continue to turn out half baked bloatware and keep a major industry alive and happy?

Since MS now sell directly into the PC security industry (many of the products available to keep your MS servers safe and secure can be bought from, yes you guessed it, MS), I suspect the have taken an unwritten and unpublicised decision to do, well, nothing.

Which is exactly what they've done all along when it comes to making their broken products work properly.
The BBC licence free? 4:12pm on 25 Nov 2008 Competing with the BBC keeps the standards of the "advert" channels high; so even if you don't watch any bbc you're still getting your money's worth.

Have you seen American TV?

Trashy, lowest possible denominator rubbish, with as much advertising thrown in as there is real content.

No one wants to pay to make the kinds of programs you take for granted on the bbc, because no one wants to buy advertising time in these programs.

In the US you ONLY get the programs they can sell advertising time in.

Everything is pared down to the bone so badly that many small TV stations have to hold fund-raising events, FOR THEMSELVES, to stay on the air!

I'd pay double if it means we can keep the quality TV we have: and I only watch about 6 hours of the idiot's lantern a week.

The facts are...

Apple products just work without fuss and nonsense.

Apple products continue to work without fuss and nonsense.

You just know your Apple products are going to continue to work without fuss and nonsense for as long as you have them.

There are no repeated "are you sure" messages, no "driver conflicts", no "I see you are writing a suicide note, let me help..." messages.

Non-Apple users don't know how much of a joy Apple products are to use, so can't understand the passion the rest of us have for the simple, uncluttered, intuitive products Apple sell.

For example; compare a nasty PC laptop with it's hundreds of switches, sliders, notches, plugs, stickers, adverts, panels, buttons, hatches, catches, latches, trapdoors, openings, sockets and fold-out feet to a sleek, unbroken, reassuringly solid Apple laptop. See what I mean?
