Changing Britain's relationship with Europe 11:36am on 29 Oct 2009 Quote: In its place comes a different cast-iron guarantee of a new law to force any future government to put any future EU treaty to a popular vote.

Sigh! Here we go again.

Just for clarity: there...won't...be...another...EU...Treaty.

The reason? The ratchet clause in the Lisbon Treaty (Article 48/7), which makes it self-amending. This negates the need for any further treaties - therefore it's a worthless Tory promise.

This comment by Nick is more prophetic than he probably realises and not in the way he means. The Tory's policy will eventually change due to events, when inevitably the undemocratic EU grabs more and more power via Lisbon, and the people begin to either express their displeasure in large numbers via the ballot box (i.e better off out) or on the streets.

An undemocratic and unaccountable (EU) government cannot ignore its citizens forever.
El Presidente 2:03pm on 27 Oct 2009 He spoke of the need for "realism not isolationism" and argued that on every decision in Europe, he favoured "co-operation and co-ordination".

I read that as the classic Tory line "in Europe but not ruled by Europe". Yeah that worked with Ted Heath, the Single European Act and Maastricht didn't it?

When are our politicians going to wake up to the fact that being in the EU is logically the same as being ruled by them, even more so after Lisbon ratification, which explicitly states that EU rules take precedence over UK ones.

Or perhaps politicians from the three main parties do know this but are not being honest about it - oh wait that can't be true can it?

Another Black Friday 12:02pm on 12 Dec 2008 Every other world news organisation and newspaper is headlining with the economic crisis i.e. the failure of the US car bailout or the plument of the pound against the Euro.

The BBC instead headlines with 'Brown hails the EU recovery package.'

Yet again the BBC buys into Gordon saves the world, please be more biased ...er no I don't think you can.
Serious questions to answer 1:13pm on 04 Dec 2008 349: The Labour Government have no place to criticise the Tories about interference with the Police, re the dropping of the BAE corruption case 2 years ago.

and the point Dominic Grieve was making was not that the Home Sec should have stopped the raid, but that she should have known about it beforehand (the Met are accountable to her) and asked the right questions i.e. Why no warrant, why the need for 20 anti-terror officers etc?

Or do you think the Police should have Carte Blanche to do what they like?
Nostalgic reminder 5:05pm on 03 Dec 2008 Funny how the Speaker significantly says the Police didn't have a warrant, a disclosure that most people dropped their jaw when hearing, yet the BBC lead with headline of; 'Speaker regrets.'

We do we have to keep pointing out the biased reporting on the BBC?
Oft-asked question 1:11pm on 01 Dec 2008 Isn't it amazing (or not) that it takes days for the BBC to have a 'Have Your Say' thread on their website about the Green case, and then when they eventually do it's hidden away down the pecking order of other stories like; 'do you have a sense of belonging.'

The BBC is no longer just biased but brazen about it.
