Capello will keep England grounded 7:38pm on 08 Oct 2008 It is just amazing to me that people such as 'arry have melt downs about right and left. You only have to look at Man U to see that Renaldo lines up on the right and Giggs or Nani on the left. Do they play it that way ? Certainly not ! They are at liberty to range from one side of the field to the other. Does Man U's defesive capabilities suffer because they they swap sides or forage in the middle ? No.
The same can be said of many more top teams, but England has to have a right and a left !

I would respectfully disagree. Scholes can certainly score and pass, but he makes up for that by giving the ball away and by giving up free-kicks in the most dangerous positons, around the penalty area.
Joe Cole is more of the same, a lot of flair step-overs etc., but ends up losing the ball to the defender or making a poor pass. If you haven't seen either one, or both, doing that you must be wearing rose coloured glasses !
Time for England to trust Joe Cole 4:36pm on 08 Sep 2008 It was Andorra that young Mr Cole scored against...............most of the time that I've seen him play for England and Chelsea he runs down "blind alleys" and must at least equal Scholes in the ability to lose the ball.
Stewart Downing a "very good player " ? Not what I've seen for England or Middlesboro . He is not of international standard, confident or not.

Fair point to you to, I would certainly go for Barry/ Bullard or Hargreaves or Carrick or Reo Coker as long as we had two or three attacking midfielders in front of them and one or two strikers in front of them. It cannot be denied that Lampard and Gerrard are quite successful in Europe with their club teams. As I have said they play in completely different formations for them.
England must raise game in Zagreb 01:54am on 07 Sep 2008 It's easy to knock Lampard and Gerrard for that matter, but we have another England manager who doesn't seem to get the Lampard/Gerrard situation. I do not know how many times I've said this...........neither one plays central midfield for their clubs. They both play attacking midfielders with the freedom to range whereever they see fit. Which is why they are amongst the goals at both Chelsea and Liverool. The central midfielders at Chelsea and Liverpool are holding midfielders, one a little more attacking than the other. Three managers have now said we must play 4-4-2 because that is how they like their teams to play. So we have players who play in different formations in their club team having to switch into different formations, and positions, when in the National team. You wonder why the players look like they do not know each other ?
Until an English manager comes along who is willing to play to our strengths and use players to play to those strengths we will be unable to compete at the top level.

Capello springs surprise with Terry choice 7:58pm on 19 Aug 2008 Let me see if I get this right................we get rid of one manager, for incompetency, hire another, at least three or four times more expensive, who picks the same team with the same captain and you are discussing the virtues of the situation ?
We needed change, new players with a winning attitude, young players who hopefully would learn. We do not need the same old rubbish, rehashed, made to look new. We've heard Joe Cole's nonsense before and it is just talk. Indubitily we will here it again from Terry.
I've said it before, what we have now in this squad are eleven players who have proved, over a number of years, they are not good enough. Eleven players who are not of international standard and only one who is anywhere good enough and he should be captain..........Gareth Barry.
