Adopted Mason highlights question of allegiance 7:54pm on 23 Jun 2009 When you live in a wealthy country it is easy to say athlete's shouldn't switch nationalities for money but it's difficult for athletes in poorer countries who can not ply their "trade" easily without switching nationalities. Better training better conditions & better money will make people move.

Cristiano Ronaldo doesn't need to switch because Man U and now Real Madrid pay him huge sums. Different for athletes as the higher profile gets them to bigger events and bigger endorsements.

An exceptional engineer can work in any country in the world & except for the occasional "brain drain" article no-one cares if they switch nationality
Scolari faces up to home truths 4:26pm on 01 Dec 2008 Agree with 13 - there is so much "Arsenal were Lucky" (to be fair they were on the first goal) and little comment on John Terry's flying two-footed studs-up challenge on Sagna - Chelsea were lucky that he didn't get a red card

Perhaps if the goal had been disallowed John Terry's sending off would have been the defining moment.

OTOH perhaps the ref didn't send him off as an "even-up" for the goal

Anyway I'm sure Chelsea will get some lucky goal before the end of the season and Arsenal will be unlucky with a ref's decision - it always goes around.

About time football (soccer in the US) had instant replay on important plays that result in a goal - 3 challenges per match per side shouldn't be unreasonable

This is purely mercenary and has absolutely no redeeming features. There would be zero interest without the "Rich American who somehow got a knighthood puts up $20 million for a single 20/20 match" angle that keeps getting rammed down our throats with every article ever written about it

I'm thoroughly sick of the whole affair - although it does have some of the appeal of a train wreck as I can't seem to help reading about it :-)
