Tyson laid bare 11:11pm on 21 Apr 2009 Agree totally with Justniz - his denials of rape seem shallow given what even his biggest fan would struggle to plausibly deny - he is a violent misogynist. He once claimed he didn't even speak to women unless they were prepared to go to bed with him, and didn't an ex-associate once say how Tyson boasted that the best punch he ever threw was the one that sent his ex-wife around the room?

I suppose he at least received some punishment for his crime, unlike the vast majority of rapists. If he is morally capable of making a decent human being of himself, then I wish him well. But I'm not optimistic.
Hillsborough - a personal memory 8:14pm on 10 Apr 2009 Hard to believe it's been 20 years. I was 12 at the time, and always remember my Mum being reluctant to let me go to football matches - at the time it frustrated me, but now I understand why.

Agree with all those objecting to the BBC employing Mackenzie - there are a thousand and one reasons not to buy that rag anyway, but Mackenzie's (don't care if that's the right spelling) front page that day was unforgivable. Especially as he has since sneeringly withdrawn his 'apology'.

I think the fight for justice should always go on - even if no-one deliberately set out to make mistakes, it's wrong that the police officers involved all seemed to have been pensioned off comfortably and have spent their lives since on the golf course.
Damned United review 7:53pm on 07 Apr 2009 Simo429 - thank you. It is hypocritical of Clough's family to complain that his name is being dragged through the mud. Not that I see much evidence that that's the case, anyway.

Clough never thought twice about making derogatory, personal, and unpleasant remarks about anyone, and his ignorant rant about Hillsbrough was probably the lowest, especially given that he saved it to use as the obligatory 'controversial' chapter in his autobiography. What price the feelings of 96 families where there are serialisation rights to discuss, eh, Brian?
FA Cup never loses magic 5:20pm on 04 Jan 2009 Sorry, but the FA Cup has long since had its day. I can't even remember who Portsmouth beat in the final last year - was it Bristol City or WBA? I used to remember every single thing about finals in the 80's when I first started following the game - goals, commentary, the players sodding about on boating lakes at the hotel, etc.

It's like fans of a rock group, who are 4 albums past their commercial and creative peak, desperately claiming their heroes are as relevant as ever. Or people who claim snooker still has the public's attention. Life moves on - deal with it.

Capello on familiar battleground 5:09pm on 18 Nov 2008 Capello was doing the necessary - letting the self-obsessed big clubs know he has a job to do as well, and won't them play silly-buggers with him and the England team.

I am satisfied that Gerrard is injured, but Capello has got where he has by being like this, and the day he changes, England can kiss goodbye to the WC.

Ashley's short-term gamble 4:56pm on 26 Sep 2008 How much of a gamble is this, really? Joe admits himself he will only be around for 6-8 games; whatever happens in that time, it won't be a huge, pivotal chapter in Newcastle's history - probably the same as if any caretaker came in - a few losses, a few draws, maybe a win or two.

That's not to say I think it will be a success - I don't think it will be. Although Joe did a very good job for us at Wimbledon, that was a club made for him and his personality and style. Newcastle will be sulking millionaires from a hundred different countries.

He also had a bad heart attack, lest we forget, and I question the wisdom of even temporary employment in such an absurd environment as St. James Park.

Good luck, anyway, Joe, for all you did at WFC - good days, they were.
Three cheers for Boo 10:04am on 20 Sep 2008 Sorry, I'll have to dissent re: the absurdly named Boo Weekley. His conducting of the crowd, sumo posturing and 'aw shucks' apple pie interviews made me realise why a European win would make me so happy.

Westwood didn't think much of it, and I don't blame him.

As for Harrington, wrong to blame him, or anyone particularly, for yesterday's huge disappointment. The US played well, not much else to be said - let's hope it changes today.
Taming the Ryder Cup rodeo 7:17pm on 18 Sep 2008 Interesting that on the Guardian and Telegraph websites recently I've read articles slagging off Faldo, both of which got bombarded with responses defending him.

The guy at the Torygraph even said that we are a nation of Faldo sceptics. The natural reply to this is that the nation has always thought he's the mutt's nuts; it's only the bruised egos in the press tent that can't stand him, probably because of the now-legendary 1992 Open speech.

Although I must admit, it's intriguing that his third ex-wife (or is she his fourth? Fifth?) is going to partner him at all the functions. Surely that's just begging to get the tabloids on his back?
