Rio's Olympic bid strikes the right chord 6:47pm on 05 Oct 2009 Why are we still talking about Obama in relation to the 2016 games, so what? Chicago did not win, neither did Madrid or Tokyo. Give Rio credit where credit is due! They have a brilliant vision and did not win based solely on the fact that it's logical to have an Olympic games in South America! BRAVO!
Competition hots up in Copenhagen 8:14pm on 01 Oct 2009 'the USA hasn't had it in yonks', what will be a whole 20 years. Let's have a look at the rest of the field:

Madrid: Spain wouldn't have hosted the games since Barcelona 1992 - 24 years
Tokyo: Haven't held the games since 1964 - 52 years
Rio: The games have never even been held on their continent

Why should America be given the right to hold the games so regularly? There are many more nations who need the games, not just feel they deserve to.

London 2012 cuts its cloth 00:45am on 08 Jan 2009 Just to vent my personal disappointment at those who agree with the first comment, the Olympic games will change Britain as we know it today. It will bring about a great resurgence in sport uptake and I know many will be cynical that this will be a temporary thing, but why should it be? I noticed the immediate uptake as soon as Beijing finished when the pools were full!

To clarify to people, it has been clearly stated that the project will cost £9.325 Billion, but this is the full project, not the 17 days of Olympic competition, but also the 14 days of Paralympic competition which gets overlooked so much when we are so good at it! The cost involved is also not for these 4 or so weeks of sport, it is for the revitalisation of a deprived part of the country and will provide affordable housing to thousands in the capital.

The whole country will feel the benefits with the influx of tourism the games will bring. It is possible that the revenue the games will provide will cover the costs of running them.

I'm a medical professional and I see the great benefits that sport will have on this country and home success in 2012 will boost sport uptake. Why should people be so cynical?
