Mobile TV: Ready for take-off? 8:52pm on 14 Nov 2009 Forgot to add, I use iPlayer on the iPhone regularly, just want Channel 4 to make 4OD work and then when Hulu launch in the UK, mobile TV will have come of age.

The new Sky Mobile TV iPhone App, means I can subscribe to SkySports AND ESPN for only £6/month, I've just been and purchased an iPhone TV-Out cable from Amazon and can now watch all the SkySPorts channels on my TV for only £6/month.

Bargain!!! Cancelled Sky subscription and than to this App I'm saving about £51/month, thank you Sky

I also just discovered TVCatchup.com - great.

Why has this deterioration of PQ been ignored, and why is the Beeb sticking theirs heads in the sand over this issue.

I got BBCHD, soon after Sky launched their service, I then left for a year and came back to the service recently, and the difference between then and now is huge.

Also, is this a blog or propoganda I was under the impression a blog offered a 2 way form of communication with ample opportunity for the blog author to respond to comments?

Yes all that is possible, but it doesn't change the fact that the human eye/brain finds the optimum page width to be around 70 characters, any wider and its natural to find it difficult to read.

So what happens is there are generally 'relative width' columns to the left and right of the 'fixed width' main body column. Of course if this was a commercial site that empty space would be filled with Flash ads - I prefer the white space to that, so please don't change BBC

Reading the Kindle 11:10pm on 20 Oct 2009 These eReaders still aren't designed with consumers in mind, or rather the whole package isn't, they represent a high margin way for the publishers to distribute the content.

eBooks should be a fraction of the price of physical books as there is a fraction of the costs involved in distributing the digital content that there is in the physical counter parts

If books cost about 49p-£3.99 for the traditional price tags of £5.99-£19.99 of their physical counterparts then I can see the adoption of ereaders increasing rapdly, but if publishers see this distribution channel as a way to charge the same price as they currently are but pocket lots of extra margin then this will be the domain of the techie few.

I love the feel and smell of turning pages in old paperbacks, but I would gladly forgo it to make savings on a digitally distributed product, but until I can make savings I'll stick with the physical product.
Broadband Britain - how far down the league? 12:05pm on 02 Oct 2009 This is nothing but a failure for those overseeing the framework which has allowed this to happen. Fortunately from next May those people overseeing this national disgrace will no longer be with us. I just hope those replacing them will throw the Digital Britain report out of the window, and look to follow the lead of Australia or the US by coming up with a better plan to roll out fibre.
Who wins from an Orange iPhone? 12:46pm on 28 Sep 2009 Hopefully it will be good for o2 customers as well, as Oranges 3g coverage is better than o2's and Orange have the 3g network sharing agreement with Vodafone, although if they take T-Mobile over they may lose that, but have the benefit of T-Mobile's... anyway I'm rambling.

Apple won't support heavy discounting so I expect price parity between the two networks, so the real difference will come down to HSDPA/3G coverage, and o2 is pretty poor across the UK in comparison to all other networks, so as an o2 iPhone customer (who hates Orange and would never go with them over a past customer service incident) I'm hopeful o2 will buck up their ideas and roll out more HSDPA/3G coverage.

Or do we live in hope that their will be yet another blog post revolving around some tech story in Africa

There are huge stories happening but no where on the BBC Tech site to comment on them

Can a laptop change the world? 11:22am on 23 Sep 2009 The fact this only has 2 comments (before mine) despite being online shows that people don't really care much for all these 3rd world broadband blog posts - Thats 4 posts in a row now, plus about 5 or 6 posts of the previous 10.... who cares? No one obviously care enough to even comment.

Obviously its important to the region so 1 or 2 posts could be expected, but not the lions share of the last fortnights posting.

there are real tech stories floating around involving Elite turning 25, Yahoo, Intel, Google and obviously many many more surely you can muster up at least one blog post on those
