Benitez faces biggest test 12:48pm on 21 Oct 2009 Whilst on the toilet, i got thinking about liverpool. haha our title challenge has indeed been flushed down the loo by some media experts.

However, i think the root of the problem is whatever was done in the years after Dalglish left and then we had about 6 or 7 seasons of pure mediocrity.

I also blame the Champions league. Since its introduction its become acceptable to finish 4th or 5th in some circumstances and still qualify for the "greatest" club competition in world football.

Since when has 4th or 5th been acceptable at Liverpool? it hasnt. Under Shankly and Paisley, which unfortunately was before my time, 1st was 1st and 2nd was nowhere. Since Benitez has come in, we have finished 2nd just once. So really if we look at it that way, for 20 years we have finished nowhere.

A sense of realism hit me. There are too many average players at this club.

We also need to go back to the formation which won us 18 league titles - 4-4-2.

Torres is 24 years old and should learn that he needs another striker alongside him.

Mascherano and Gerrard in middle
Johnson Right wing
Kuyt and Torres up front

Pretty good team in my book. Lucas and Aquilani on the bench with ngog, voronin and the other average players we have.

Yes we are missing our two best players but that should give encouragement to the other guys to fight for their place to keep it. Whats the point in being a professional footballer if you dont want to play football

The excuses stop now and the buck always seems to start with the coach.

I honestly think its time for a change whther that be new owners, new coach, new formation, new players,

Something underlying is not right at liverpool and i believe its been the case since Dalglish walked out in 1991.

19 years without a league title and its looking like another 19 years at this rate.

We are going backwards as a football club.

We need to rebuild and start again lay some new foundations, buy some new players, get some fresh ideas and lay a fresh challenge.

The thing about the players bought in is so correct. However when Rafa joined in 2004, he asked owen a question to which he replied no, and then was shipped off to Madrid for £8million. Why would Rafa then three years later want to take the player back for double the price and then take a risk on his fitness when we have a serious injury crisis?

Like i say, things run deeper than the media show us and maybe its time for someone from the Anfield boardroom to come out and spill the beans.

Perhaps Rick parry should release a biography and we can really find out whats going on.
Benitez faces biggest test 12:05pm on 21 Oct 2009 I dont have time to read all the posts, but every team will have a dip in form, ours has just come now.
lets be honest - Chelsea, Villa, Sunderland and Spurs are all above us in the league as they are playing better than us and are in form.
Lyon too are 3rd in their league and to be honest their pace and trickery threatened us all night. There were brief glimpses of us getting our form back

Instance 1)we took the lead
Instance 2) Aurelio heads the ball either side of the GK end of the first half its 2-0
Instance 3) Ngog doesnt scuff his shot and goes in, thats 2-0 end of game
Instance 4) Kuyt wrongly/rightly had a goal disallowed for a fould on the defender where lets be honest, anywhere else on the pitch its play on

They hit us on the counter and whilst the defending was poor - Reinas fist for the first goal had he got a cleaner contact it would have gone out for a throw in, had our defence reacted quicker to the first save, the goal would have been stopped.

I know its all ifs and buts, and at the end of the day its all we have.

Football is a results based industry and 4 defeats in a row against what must be said 3 top teams and one team who is on the up and got a lucky beach ball on the pitch is not bad.

Rafa wont walk, and he wont be sacked, Liverpool are not a sacking club.

Gillette and Hicks have a lot of work to do, it would be nice if they could say something positive about the club in the next couple of days.

Barnes gamble was doomed from the start 2:29pm on 09 Oct 2009 Unfortunately, i think that in the lower levels of footballs professional regime, knowledge is the key.
What Barnes has is a name and fair enough when the transfer market opens he is able to ask players because of who he is.

Its a shame it never worked out for him, maybe its a case of becoming a coach / assistant to someone first and learn the ropes before hanging yourself out to dry.

No doubt a talented footballer, and indeed my favourite footballer of all time, im pretty sure he can cut it as a coach, he probably like in my previous paragrah needs to be a number 2

If his ego doesnt allow it then unfortunately his off the pitch life will never match what a great career he had on the pitch
Drogba inflicts pain on Liverpool 10:24am on 05 Oct 2009 Another game against a top side and another defeat. What Rafael benitez fails to register is that Liverpool are meant to be a TOP side. We are meant to be ONE of the best sides in the league. We arent meant to go to a top side and play okay and expect to get a result. We are meant to goto Chelsea etc and go there and play well and get a positive result.

At the moment we do not look like winning the league, this season or the next.

Rafa has no plan B. he has no faith in Babel or Ngog/Voronin and is too blinded by the fact that Lucas isnt a good player. Mascherano at least has a purpose by harrying and giving the ball to a player.. But what does Lucas offer? He is meant to be Brazilian but offers nothing. As a liverpool fan im really depressed.

Okay, so we dont usually get a result at White Hart Lane or Stamford Bridge and we usually put Aston Villa out of sight at Anfield but something is still not right.

Why cant Rafa play 4-2-2-2 with 2 defensive midfielders as he chooses and then two wide men, with two strikers.

You can play Gerrard anywhere.. Either stick him right up top or put him wide right where his delivery is the best in the team and then let Kuyt partner Torres. Torres can play on the shoulder of the defender and Kuyt can work the space.

It just seems obvious from a fans point of view and obviously Rafa knows best.

Or, the flip side is, he has been here for 5 years and we are still no closer to the elusive 19th title, therefore it could be time for a change.
Benitez and O'Neill on the offensive 1:33pm on 25 Aug 2009 We are always told the PL is a Marathon and not a sprint, so why are there numerous people going on about a crisis at Anfield? Ooops! We havent started like we should, maybe perhaps we are not the pacesetters this year, perhaps we will be in the chasing pack, prodding and asking questions of the leaders and then when the pacesetters falter, we will be there to take the race home.
Please, keep writing us off at your peril, its what liverpool is all about - us against the rest, we never do things the easy way - Olympaikos 2005, AC Milan 2005 and West Ham 2006. We love the comebacks, and we never give up til its gone.

So to all liverpool fans out there, keep cheering, keep believing, and have faith.

Tevez a sound deal for Man City 11:52am on 14 Jul 2009 Man City are definitely the poor mans Real Madrid.

Whilst they splash £30million on players who are clearly very average, Real Madrid are spending real money on world class players.

Whilst City are doing this, it will lead to greater competition in the EPL. Im pretty sure fans of teams who are not in the top 4 are secretly hoping that City can break into the top 4. What this does do is one of the better teams will be in the Europa League.

I think City fans should rejoice in their position, the one thing they have to be careful about tho is buying too many players in a particular position. Tevez, Santa Cruz, Adebayor, Robinho, Bellamy are all used to playing regular football. Which out of these two/three alongside Wright Philipps, Elano, Petrov will start each game?

I remember watching a video clip of a certain ex United legend scoring acheeky back heel for City against United which sent them down. How funny would it be if Tevez scored a back heel that denied United the league next season!!
Liverpool walks on 12:32pm on 23 Jun 2009 The difference between liverpool and southampton is that liverpool would get potential investors especially if the price is lower than what it is now

Plus if the club was put up for sale, then www.shareliverpoolfc.co.uk would come into play where potentially 100,000 fans across the globe would love to put £5,000 in each to buy the club. we could then use the other £150million to buy players and ensure financial stability before selling the club to a proper owner at roughly £7500 a share, making a 50% profit.
Is Owen still worth a gamble? 1:34pm on 15 Jun 2009 Am i the only liverpool fan thinking that Owen would be welcome back with open arms? The darling of Anfield for so many years, those goals at Cardiffs Millenium stadium crushing Arsenals dreams in the fa cup, the super goal he scored for England in 1998, i know he doesnt have the pace but with Torres who has loads of pace, Owen would find the space to score goals. Come on Rafa, you did it with Fowler, do it with Owen! A simple one year rolling contract - 50k a week and you will make it all back as loads of fans will get owen put on the back of their shirt.

As for his injuries, out of 38 league games, if he plays a part in 25 and score 10-12 goals then happy days.
The dread of pre-season training looms large 12:55pm on 09 Jun 2009 Gavin, is it possible for normal people like me to join a pro club just to do the pre season work out? My body fat is ridiculous and id love to lose it and if a month at a pro club can sort my fitness out then id love to do it!

Alternatively, you could write what you do pre season each day in a blog so we can copy...
