Mixed fortunes for England duo 11:08am on 15 Nov 2009 Phil, what are your thoughts on Ashley Young, or more importantly, how he's being used or not used for England? He got 3 minutes on the pitch last night, an experienced coach like Capello must have known it was a silly amount of time to have an impact, so why send him on? I think everyone knows that Young has bags of ability and could be a big player for England, but Capello seems to overlook this in favour of iving Wright-Phillips countless chances when in reality we all know he's prabably Englands 3th choice right winger at best.
Honest Wolves pay penalty 10:08pm on 24 Oct 2009 Come on Phil, you dont think your assessment is a little one sided here? What saves did Brad Friedel have to make? For a side that got a "deserved point" they threatened the goal maybe twice all game. Villa didnt threaten much either, but on three or four occasions just a touch from a Villa player in the Wolves box would have turned the ball in. Agbonlahor was guilty of two shocking misses before he scored a far more difficult chance.

And then theres the fact that John Carew himself was grapped down the area. Here you have the other side of the coin. Carew is fouled, but doesnt do his upmost to stay on his feet and he is not awarded with a penalty. Andy Gray i believe said, "if thats outside the box he's going to win a free kick." I personally think we (Villa) played poorly today, but the jist of your article is that we were on the backfoot all game and we fortunate to get a 1-1 draw. Now when our opposition has a single serious shot on goal, and its from the penalty spot, this seems quite a harsh analysis.

Barry gets England talking 11:47am on 04 Jun 2009 As a Villa fan i was totally shocked at this move. We caught a glimpse of Gareth Barry's attitude last season when out of the blue he slated Martin O'Neill but i honestly never expected him to go back on his word, the word he had given to every Villa fan. If he had just told the truth we might be more forgiving, but seriously Gareth, "going stale", what does that even mean? You were at a club who adored you and were offered a big new contract. The club were in Europe and are building a team who should challenge for silverware in the next few years. You swapped it for a big payday and to be honest, to become part of a club who massively underachieved this season and probably will next season too (Based on the sheer amount of cash spent).

Nobody likes being lied to, especially by someone who the fans held in such high esteem. We deserved better Gareth, even after your desperation to go last season at any cost, we forgave you. Dont expect the same forgiveness this time.

Battle rages over F1 future 5:16pm on 12 May 2009 Everyone seems to be saying "it would be terrible without Ferrari, they shouldn't have to leave", but surely this is despicable behavior on their part?

1) A budget cap would surely mean that the teams with the best technical ability would prevail, teams would have to work longer and harder to get to the top rather than just throw money at it. By taking this stance, Ferarri are surely saying they know they dont have a hope without buying the title.

2) Are Ferarri bigger than F1? No, of course no. This is because there are fans of lots of teams and more importantly, many fans for individual drivers. So F1 would survive without them.

3) The biggest point everyone is missing, why should Ferarri be allowed to bully every other team in F1 and the sport as a whole? How can they be allowed to act like a petulant child not getting their own way, and even worse for people to side with them! They ALWAYS get their own way, just look at the amount of things that went against Lewis Hamilton last year. At some point someone has to stand up to them, and this has to be that point. They will come crawling back once they realise they have let down their fans and the sport.

Bad taste Haye creates a buzz 8:41pm on 20 Apr 2009 I cant wait for this fight. I agree with Haye, that for the sake of the sport, someone needs to challenge the Klitschko's. Their style for the most part is dull, waiting and choosing their moment, and as effective as that is, nobody wants to see it. In contrast, Haye will come out looking to land a lot of punches. I hope at the very least he gives it 5/6 rounds of competitive fighting, because if he cant then its hard to see where he goes from there.
Final reflections on a memorable weekend 9:51pm on 30 Mar 2009 Excellent blog, very good insight, not all as glamorous as people think! Absolutely loving the new season, new cars, new channel and new presenting team. Was delighted with the whole show from start to finish and really pleased for Jensen Button, his face told the whole story. You cant fake just what it meant to him winning that race. Truly was one of the best races ive viewed in years. Keep up the good work!
Strauss's nearly-men have work to do 4:34pm on 11 Mar 2009 For me the test series (bar the 1st test with a new captain) was encouraging. Yes, nearly but not quite in 3 of the test matches, but the Windies played for a draw as soon as theyd taken the lead in the series, and on pitches as flat as these it would be near impossible to get a batsman out who just defended. I think the players can take heart from this and we need to build over the next few months till the ashes. If we have batsmen in form then theres always a chance. If Collingwood, Strauss, Cook and KP are all playing well then it would be a headache for any bowling attack. Anderson and Broad need to take a step up to the next level to be considered great bowlers. Flintoff is a must, and if (a very big if) Simon ones could get fit and playing anything like he was a few years ago, that would be an option with considering for any side.
