Map of the Week: Road crash victims 12:52pm on 29 Jul 2009 I think the term "road accident" should be abolished. The vast majority of killings on the road are not "accidents" and are caused by idiot drivers driving too fast and/or without any attention or respect paid to other road users.

I see all kinds of lunatic every day on my 30 mile e/w drive who are quite content to run the risk of killing someone in order to get to where they need to. We should no longer pander to motorists' lobbies and have more cameras and more enforcement to weedle out the small minority of drivers who cause most of the carnage.

All too easy and lazy-minded to blame a small group of people for the misdeeds of the many, thereby never getting to real causes when things go wrong. The fact is, these four were just greedy and no amount of legislation would remedy that.
Why bankers aren't worth it 10:55am on 06 Jul 2009 What many readers seem to fail to understand is that its all very well saying glibly "bring in legislation" but its impossible to do so in practice. Its too easy to once again slag off the government when the roots of the problem go back to Thatcher and Reagan.

Much easier to simply tax the greedy so-and-sos at 90 or even 100% all bonuses earned in the financial sector beyond a certain amount (say £500,000). As long as the rest of the world did the same it would be fine. This government won't do it though, nor will creepy Dave whose toff buddies have all no doubt had there noses in the trough.

Who will win at Wembley? 2:08pm on 22 May 2009 Having been a football follower for over 40 years and seen every style of football, I seem to be in a very small minority of people who actually can't stand teams who play football the so-called "right way". Its utterly boring to me to see teams pass sideways with no end product, what's the point ? What I want to see is 100% effort, balls into the box, a good battle and players who play like it means something to them. Give me Stoke anyday over Arsenal.

As for the play-offs, I hope its Sheff Utd. Millwall and Gillingham, all teams who like a scrap and who their opponents will know they've been in a game at full-time.
