Website problems 3:45pm on 05 Nov 2009 I think the registering again thing a few days ago might have been the prompt to upgrade to the BBC's new ID system as described here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/blogs/bbcinternet/2009/10/welcome_to_bbc_id.html

As for the second "issue", is that not just clarify that you yourself made the comment in more personal language? I don't think its a fault with the usernames, it'll say "you wrote" above this post when I've posted it too because I am signed in.
BBC Archive: Tomorrow's World 09:18am on 15 Sep 2009 I particularly enjoyed the discussion about the heart transplant. There is something slightly surreal about it, in the way in which people speak, the general production values and the disjointed nature of the whole thing. The man in the wheelchair being wheeled on seemingly from nowhere was a particular highlight.

The whole show seemed very alien to me, used to the slicker productions of the 90s and 2000s.

Meanwhile the sequence in the debit card film with the man who can't buy wine because he was no cash is delightfully Look Around You :D
Blogs and boards: getting the balance right 2:56pm on 02 Aug 2009 Right now for my "big issue". I feel that good user profiles would be a great help to moderation.

Say for example, that Boilerplated, who posts in numerous places and is mostly sensible, developed a strange habbit of spamming the strictly board.

Now what happens then? Does he get banned? Does he get a warning? If he gets a warning are we, down on the internet blog, aware of it?

If there was the ability to warn users who were persistently badly behaved and it showed on their public profile (which also showed ALL comments sorted by individual blog / messageboards) I think it would also let us get a better overview of what a user is like.

Also another question, why can we not make use of long term members as moderation on boards? Even if its just perhaps the ability to make iffy comments vanish right away. I remember reading something about having staff CRB chcked but if they have no ability o see emails and there's no PM system on the BBC why is this required? It seems rather excessive.

Failing that, would trusted members not be useful on places like the iPlayer messageboard? As Chris Cornwall has pointed out before I feel all questions on that should be answered, even if its just a link to the relevent FAQ. How exactly would me having a badge signifying "this user may not be staff, but he's also not an idiot and can help you with your problem" be an issue?

Oh and while you're at it, can we have a little option that makes this posting box larger? The Mail have it on their site and it would make long posts far easier to check over :)
Blogs and boards: getting the balance right 2:47pm on 02 Aug 2009 There's a lot of issues I can see regarding commenting on the BBC, so I'll try and get through most of them as briefly as possible before going on about my main bugbear.

Firstly, Commenting on News articles.
I think, despite the reservations above, this has merit. HYS is a nihgtmare, both in terms of layout and content, so the argument "it'll encourage drivvel" does make sense but then its already there filling page after page of HYS.

However I think having it against articles rather than topics would be useful as it would both dilute the nonsense but also encourage better articles. Ask me to comment on "2009 technology convention" and I'd probably not, ask me to comment on an article about the new version of firefox and I likely would.

As for other commenty areas, I feel a redesign of many of the message board skins would help. I find that the iPlayer messageboard is far better laid out than the POV one and is easy to read as a consequence. Tidying all the blogs into this new template helped make it seem more coherant and I think the same would occur if you tidied messagebaords.
Searching for places on the BBC 12:15pm on 23 Jul 2009 on the subject of searching, have the /topics pages been axed? if so what was the thinking behind this? did they simply not work as intended?
Visualising radio - phase two 09:53am on 28 Jun 2009 I've tried a few of these out and I really dislike them. As was mentioned during the first trial, the differences in the audio mixing between TV and Radio lead to you sitting there watching sound that just doesn't seem to fit with the vision, the sound being very 2D compared to the 3D pictures.

It simply creates a thing that is difficult to watch and keeping the thing running - at least on moyles show - appears to disrupt the flow of the actual programme.

In addition, I find radio making a strange thing to watch as the people are too busy making sure they're lined up with the mics and pressing buttons and pretending that the little minions who float around aren't there.

I think a less is more approach is needed. Yes it can be amusing and mildly distracting to look at the webcams and indeed an updates version of those, perhaps with a simple video webcam or two on the celing would be welcome, but the current setup simply doesn't work. :(
Another exciting new sound for BBC Radio 9:13pm on 19 Jun 2009 @digitalradiotech, I should clarify that when I said "when i see his face" I meant as in I knew it would be a post about radio, rather than suggestiong you have a vendetta gainst him.

@rangersman[QPR], I never listen to the local stations so that doesn't affect me, however surely any uninstallation of real player is cause for celebration ;)
Another exciting new sound for BBC Radio 8:08pm on 19 Jun 2009 This is excellent news, I always feel dirty having to install realplayer on a new machine and with the BBC finally ditching the damn thing I should never have to suffer its pathetic software again. Indeed I still vivdly remember installing the thing when I first got the internet in 1999 to watch a tiny version of the nine of clock news and it was shoddy even then. Good riddence to bad rubbish.

On a slightly different note though, I find it worrying that when I first saw the title of this - indeed just the sight of Cridland's face - had me first and foremost wondering what problem digitalradiotech and rangersman[QPR] would complain about first.

Sadly I was incorrect this time, as my presumption was that the bitrates would be too low for their liking.

Not that I like DAB of course, it's far poorer than FM is capable of, but still, at least its more advanced than broken records eh?

Would it not be easier in the short term simply to have an extra "UK Front Page" and "International Front Page" link down the bottom of the navigation bar? Or is the removal of the switcher part of some major rejigging of CPS that we're not yet privvy to?
