It's the football season (in more than one code!) 12:19pm on 10 Sep 2009 Hi GaryOfBeeston. There's no need to worry about the left-hand not knowing what the right-hand is doing. I was momentarily confused by the previous comment, where freddawlanen made reference to a women's youth World Cup, which freddawlanen said had taken place recently. No such tournament has taken place this year, as you will know. I suspect that comment was actually referring to the Under-19 European Championship, not a World Cup, as you say, but neither of us knew that, so I was a little puzzled.

And there's definitely no confusion about our coverage of women's football. As stated, we have a women's football section, which covers England's matches and also the Premier League, but we do not cover youth football on the main, national, bbc.co.uk/sport site, whether that is men or women (with the one exception being men's U21). Local BBC outlets may do more on their local clubs, which is perfectly right and normal. Good luck for the season, and enjoy the coverage of England's final tonight on this website and BBC TV.

If I then did not do that, I imagine they would rightly hammer me! You do know Roger has his own blog on here now, and is still blogging regularly?

Reaneyofftheline (is that in tribute to Paul Reaney? I had my photo taken with him once when I was a little kid), remember the programme is on the red button on Sunday mornings, so that effectively is a repeat, although I take Brekkie's point that it might sometimes get squeezed.

I would hope that exactly the idea you have outlined will happen in the next few weeks, but I won't pretend that we've instantly leapt on your idea and implemented it immediately. That would be a little disingenuous! Like I say, it was already in the pipeline.

RobRob - thanks for the details. I will make sure the people that oversee the technical aspects of the mobile site see what you've written. Appreciate it.

Dr_Bean, like the query from lightsjp4, your idea is also something we're already planning, but it's going to take a lot longer to get there in your case! I would hope it happens by next football season, but won't be ready for the current campaign. But definitely in the pipeline.
It's the football season (in more than one code!) 12:15pm on 09 Sep 2009 Hackerjack - I am sorry you feel that way about the clips on the site, and I do absolutely take your points on board. We have also felt we would like the clips to be generally longer, and we have asked for this to happen from now on.

I didn't ever promise "at least five minutes" because contractually we are capped at five minutes for these edits as a maximum. What I said in the last blog was that we'd aim for two-to-five minutes, and I totally accept that some of the clips have been under two minutes. I don't think I have seen any that are 60 seconds or under, but you may well be right. If a clip was 60 seconds, I would agree with you that that is much too short.

I actually think the length of the clips is the biggest issue we have faced in the opening few weeks of the season. It has generally been a success, I think, but I have fed back to the team concerned that the clips should be longer, on the whole. Just so you know, it's not really as simple as just bothering to make them longer, as it's really a race against time to get them all edited, put voice-overs on them, check accuracy, and send them from BT Tower where they are produced back to Television Centre, and then publish them all. But nevertheless, agreed that 60 seconds is too short, and we'll generally keep trying for two minutes as a minimum. I am not promising that, for the record, but I am saying I agree with you and that is our aim.

And Overseas Toon - glad you like the idea of the European blog. I doubt Phil will discuss the Belgian league much, unless it becomes very newsworthy for whatever reason. I imagine he'll have enough of a task focusing on Italy, Spain, France and Germany, which are established as continental Europe's four biggest leagues, I think.

Can you be more specific about the problems you've been having and I'll make sure they're seen by the right people? Glad you're enjoying the Football League coverage though.

1966, tangerinearmy, CelticFox, Dr_Bean and Minister for Beer - I am only really qualified to discuss the coverage on this website. I am not part of the team that produces the TV output, I am merely the web editor! But I will make sure my colleagues in TV are aware of your comments!

Lozzer90 - nobody is replacing Steve Claridge on this site, and as far as I know on TV either! I believe his appearance for Weymouth was on a see-how-it-goes basis, but even if he made a full-time comeback for them, he'd still see enough of the Football League to be an expert in it. I am delighted with the contribution he's made to the website so far.

Freddawlanen - I am not sure which women's youth World Cup you mean. You say it was recent and that England did well in it, but I thought the under-17 and under-19 women's World Cups were in 2008, and again in 2010? Either way, we wouldn't cover it because we have limited resources and so I tend to enforce a rule where we generally don't cover under-age or over-age events, just adult sport. The exception to this would be under-21 men's football, which I think is newsworthy enough to merit coverage. But we don't cover seniors golf, for example, or youth sports by and large.

On the wider subject of women's football, you are aware that we have a whole section devoted to it? (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/women/default.stm) And that we've carried previews and reports of all of England's games so far? With blogs from Jacqui Oatley at the game tomorrow plus the live video of the match on this site, I think we're doing an OK job with this tournament. And week-by-week, we always have a weekend round-up of the matches in the women's Premier League.
The rights to highlight 07:23am on 10 Aug 2009 Thanks for the comments. Leaving aside the ones about TV, which as I have previously said I can't offer much insight or expertise on, I was largely happy with the website's opening weekend. We've just got most of the video edits of the individual matches up, and the divisional round-up videos went live at midnight last night.

One or two of you are very correct to say that some of the live scores and text commentaries on Saturday lagged a little behind. I apologise for that, and we will seek to improve these delays markedly. Considering the amount of new features we rolled out in one go, I am pretty pleased.

We will also try to find out this morning, why the As it Stands tables didn't work. Again, apologies.
The rights to highlight 4:07pm on 08 Aug 2009 WebbyFoxes - there will be a lot of commentators, so hard to say exactly who will be doing it. If you think about all the matches in the Football League on Saturdays, you can imagine that the commentator pool has been widened slightly!

Imp_88 - oh dear, I've stumbled into an East Midlands rivalry which frankly, as a Tottenham supporting Londoner, I am unqualified to delve into. Come on Lincoln, if that helps! To answer your question, this website will have less than the club sites, not more. If quantity is your thing, you'll be better off on the Lincoln site. I have not subscribed to any of the Football League sites myself, but my understanding is that you can sometimes get 10 minutes or so on there. I guess each club will be different, but if this is the case for Lincoln, that's your best bet. We are contractually capped at five minutes, and it will be a good deal less if the game is a stinker (which will never be the case for the Imps, obviously ...)

Tvphil and Mattray - appreciate your posts. Loved your joke Mattray - for a second I thought it was for real!

Will - the tables have been an issue so far this weekend. The As it Stands functionality I mentioned above has not worked out. We have people working on it. It's been the main thing that has gone wrong so far - everything else has largely worked (except for a few smaller issues like the one you raise brian192, not to disparage the linking issue, as I know it will be important to some people).

I have to say so far I am happy. If I had to choose one thing to not work, well, the As it Stands tables were always a nice thing to have, rather than an absolute essential, like the various live scores modules we have now which all look really good I think. And we will get the As it Stands tables going, I'm sure.

First bit of video due to be published tonight, of last night's Sheff Utd-Boro game. Then a whole bunch of video tomorrow!

Have you seen the Norwich score? Amazing. I used to cover Norwich for the local paper there, as I mentioned above, and have a lot of affection for the club. A sensational result in the offing for the East Anglian region.
