Was this swimming or boxing? 04:54am on 21 Aug 2008 Congratulations to all three British open water swimmers, outstanding efforts. I missed the women's swim but was asleep by 7pm tonight and up at 2am to watch Davies. What an enthralling event!

A tactical masterpiece 11:34pm on 19 Aug 2008 Hello all you angry people! This is an interesting debate and worth having, and LONG. Fine and good.

I'd just like to raise to your attention that some of the other blogs here are by individual athletes sharing their hopes dreams etc. People like David Davies the long distance swimmer, and Goldie Sayers the javelinista. Just think it would be a good thing for any of you to take 5 minutes to have a look at their articles and give some encouragement, share some love etc.

Britain's cycling success - is it cricket? 00:45am on 19 Aug 2008 No cos the cyclists win (almost) everything.

Said with feeling as someone who is obsessed with cricket to the point that it makes me ill; as John Cleese said in that film about the lost briefcase, "I can take the despair, it's the hope I can't stand".

Then we come to the cycling-the optimism, the fulfilled potential, the determination, the focus and intensity, the refusal to accept second best, the sheer domination, it's a different ruddy planet!
