In a limited overs international that is curtailed by rain such that there is no result, do the runs scored/wickets taken and other details of play still count as part of a batsman's/bowler's/team's record in that format?

Why is it that in football, it's always the manager's fault when England don't perform?

That we have one of the most widely respected managers in world football with a proven track record of results at a high level, and England are still performing like this, is surely indicative that the problem is with the same old bunch of overpaid underachievers on the pitch who don't produce the goods when wearing England colours.

Be realistic; England's players simply aren't as good as we'd like to believe.
China for gold, Britain for bronze? 09:02am on 22 Aug 2008 Matt - my problem with the US system is that the system based on gold medals won worked absolutely fine for them when they were top of it. Now they're not, and trying to pretend that they're still number 1.

I'm sure the US public isn't fooled for a second, though.

Despite being a notch ahead of Russia in golds won, any reasonable 'points' system puts them out ahead, as they are 10 medals up on us, with a lot more silvers and bronzes.

But come on. Arguing about whether we're third or fourth means nothing. All that matters is that team GB has had a fantastic games, and I'm so proud of all our athletes. I just hope that they haven't got our hopes up prematurely ahead on what should be a great event in London in four years time.

Graham Gooch's England ratings 4:26pm on 11 Aug 2008 Goochie, your biases towards opening batsmen are showing.

Strauss averaged 25 in the series and gets a 6? One decent(ish) knock today. 4 or maybe 5 if you're feeling very generous.

Vaughan a six? Couldn't buy a run, and for all your comments about his leadership, he led England to two draws and a loss. Abysmal performance deserving a 3 at most.

I think most of the other ratings are about right; perhaps a shade on the generous side for Bell, Flintoff, Broad and Harmison.
