Man Utd pile on agony for Wenger 4:57pm on 06 May 2009 The failure of Arsenal this Season is not good news for the rest of the premiership who are not in the top 3. Arsene Wenger is conducting an experiment with youth, which is seen as a template for those teams below them. He is being prudent with money in the transfer market, refuses to pay insane wages to star players, preferring a fairer wages structure and likes to play attractive, attacking football.
If Arsene Wenger cannot turn this philosophy into trophies, it is doubtful whether anyone else can.
There are good and inspirational Managers in The Premiership, but without vast spending power there seems little hope to those without.
I would have liked to see Jose Mourhino manage Newcastle. They wouldn't have been in relegation trouble for sure, but neither would they have reached the pinnacle of The Premier League without turning Newcastle into another Leeds united.
Just watch Manchester City go next season.
Genuine football fans should be very worried about the spending power of rich sugar daddies but should also pray that Wenger's experiment comes good in the end.
Arsenal guarded over financial figures 3:00pm on 19 Sep 2008 Well Mihir, you know about as much about the Arsenal finances as the rest of us and your speculation about "much to hide" seems like journalistic mischief making to me. Arsenal are a Public company and their accounts are there for all to see. Fully transparent to a trained eye.
As for Edelman, that is a slight mystery, but really of no consequence. The Stadium is built now. His job is done. He's not a football man and obviously not that great at Marketing as there is a lot that can be done in that direction. ( Look at how effective Chelsea's international marketing has been in so short a time). Arsenal's world didn't fall apart when Edelman left and no doubt a better person will take his place. Speculation about Edelman is just about as interesting as watching paint dry.
As for Hill Wood playing matters down, he's an experienced and old fashioned, old school, Chairman. No one would expect him trumpet the way Arsenal are run. It's there for all to see.
I forgive you though. You're a journalist and it's your job to try and spin something out of nothing.
