Will Upton Park violence scupper 2018 bid? 5:48pm on 26 Aug 2009 The fact is that this sort of trouble never really went away. Thatch invented the concept of football hooliganism to deflect things away from the social mess that her government was creating. Blair and Brown have done nothing to deal with the problems of society that they inherited. Is it no real wonder that this issue has come back to bite everyone on the bum?

The Government needs to come down hard with proper sentencing for the low life responisble for last night's events. The FA/FL need to hammer West Ham and Millwall to show people that this sort of behaviour will not be tolerated at any level in the game.

The FA has got the reminder it needs to make sure that it really has to push and work with whatever passes for Government in this country to sort things out so that we can host a World Cup without incident.

One "sick" thought is this. Maybe the World Cup should be held here in 2018, after all, the World doesn't want lowlife from these shores infesting their stadia, do they?

He was convicted, yes, but wrongly so in the eyes of most of the World.

As for the celbration, we all know that was wrong.

The differencet is, whether he did it or not, he served time in prison, yet the american who shot down Iran Flight 655 was given a medal by Bush!

Guest: Adam Sandler 7:14pm on 24 Aug 2009 Adam Sandler needs to do his research before coming out with disgusting remarks about wishing for the death of a man who was used as apolitical pawn. Even the CIA know Megrahi didn't do it, they did everything to try to stall the appeal process so that they wouldn't have to release that information. The country that had the motivation and the ability to do it was Iran. They wanted revenge for the slaughter of their people on a passenger airline illegally shot down by the U.S. Shame on you Mr Sandler, may you never set foot in this country again!

You need to lose the blinkers. Caldwell's red card was thoroughly deserved as he was last man and had been yellow carded for a very agricultural through the back challenge on a Norwegian only moments earlier.

The truth is that Norway showed why they are not going to the World Cup, therir front line is awful. Had they been any good they would have doubled their score against a woeful Scottish side made up of nothing more than very ordinary journeymen.
Scotland can sack theeir manager if they like, but it won't deflect from the fact that the fault lies with the following.

The Scottish FA - They seem to have abandoned any idea of true development of players.

Celtic and Rangers - The gruesome twosome's naked greed, assisted by the weakness of the SFA, have destroyed the Scottish Leagues and as a result have left something like 34 out the 40 Scottish League clubs with no chance of developing any real talent as they are broke.

The fans themselves - many who have stopped supporting their local sides, instead getting themselves bussed to celtic Park and Ibrox while their local clubs wither and die.

Scottish football needs to start again. A strong SFA who will enforce rule over Celtic and Rangers. Who will restructure the league into two divisions one of 16 and one of 24, where clubs will play each other twice and have the chance to grow, especially once they've made it into the top flight Who will get rid of inept coaching at local level and who one day will run the game in Scotland's interest.

Sadly, I don't ever see that time coming.

BTW, for the info of the smart-mouths out there, I am not English.

I spend a fair bit of time between London, the west of Ireland (Donegal, Sligo and Letrim) and Northerne Ireland (Enniskillen etc). Where you do pick up 3, in Ireland (the island of), you do not get 3G, but the inferior 2G version. That is despite Hutchison employees telling you the complete opposite every time you try to ask them why their claims are so inaccurate.

Or is it time to jump ship again after suffering repeated untruths from mobile phone companies due to their failure to provide a connected service, whilst reducing roaming charges, and all the other false promises??
Have officials turned a blind eye to Burger? 03:51am on 30 Jun 2009 Whilst I prefer the round ball game, I cannot beilieve the soft punishment handed out to the saffer for his eye gouging. The ref and his, so called, assistant saw the incident, it had to be a straight red card. As far as the citing bit goes, I would reccomend a minimum 18 month ban as this is exactly the sort of nastiness that has to be banishied from all sport, just like dug taking. As far as PDV is concerned, this horrible little cockroach needs to be booted out of the game, as it is the only way SA will rescue what is left of their dignity.

As I said. the OF have been so anti-english. they have shot themselves in the foot to the extreme. The Welsh, just messed it up because they couldn't get their rear-ends in gear.

The two arguments cannot be compared as Wales is not and never will be a "country", no matter how much Plaid Cymru (spelling??) bleat on about it.

Just ask yourself one question, is it Cardiff, Swansea, etc's fault that it took the FAW over a hundred yeard to form a league of their own? I think you will find that the answer is no.

The Welsh clubs play in England, in the main, due to the tardiness of the FAW. When the likes of Cardiff, Swansea, Newport and Merthyr were founded, there was no welsh league available for them to play in. Also the fact that Wales is a proncipality, rather than a country, meant there were no good reasons to keep them out. Look at Monaco, a principality playing in the French league.

Deery City play in the league of Ireland for political reasons, they were forced to close down during the troubles and were only able to reform if they played in the Republic. The Good Friday Agreement sets out that everyone on the island of Ireland who considers them selves to be Irish can assert that claim. Derry are an Irish team.

Berwick is a bit more unique, but historically the town has switched allegience to Edinburgh or London many times over the years. There is a campaign out aat the moment for the town tto become Scotttish yet again. In any case, they are far too small to even get into an interesting, worthwhile feeder league in the north-east of England.

Agree with you about Mawhinney being a hypocrite, but feel that things have to be done to make sure that all clubs can pay their way in full, not only to all other clubs, but to all other creditors including HMR&C.
Mawhinney tackles the big issues 2:29pm on 01 Jun 2009 Thankfully Gartside will not get his way. He overlooked one thing, the greed of other PL clubs. He may get 5 or 6 votes from the permanently relegation threatened clubs, but for the vast majority of safe clubs, this would mean a loss of two home games and two away games, along with the requisite dop in TV money that would bring. None of them will vote for it so the greedy so and s's who ruined the Scottish league can forget it, they are not gonna get in and Gartside can crawl off back undr whatever stone he calls a home.
Bitter recriminations at the Bridge 03:07am on 08 May 2009 A few thoughts:

1) The ref was totally incompetent. Simples!!

2) There was no Bias, Ask the Barca player who is out of the final due to point 1). If there was, why didn't Henry get a penalty in the first leg?

3) CFC had more than enough chances to have won the game but in the end chucked it away.

3a) Drogba's pathetic attempt at being the smart man in the first leg and his even worse miss when he passed the ball to Barca's keeper in the second leg, along with Ballack's non-appearence in a football shirt until he "assaulted" the ref in the last couple of minutes, conjoined with Cole and Malouda being a couple of clowns on CFC's left hand side was, in the end, as useful as scoring an O.G. for Barca.

3b) Anelka, preferring to trip himself up instead of scoring the goal that would have put them through (see point 1).)

4) Guus Hiddink. If this man was a master tactician, why didn't he get his players under control? Barca were down to ten men, CFC only had to park the bus for the last ten minutes and strangle the game. What happened? They all turned into headless chickens, bombing up the field and collapsing within sight of the opposition penalty area, whilst neglecting the important bit, i.e. stop Barca scoring!!

5) CFC's left (see 3a). What was going on there? Cole and Malouda looked like they had never met, let alone played together. It could have been so much worse for CFC who were saved by the fact that Barca's right winger couldn't cross the ball to save his life. Thanks to the ineptitude and rabbit in the headlights performance of Cole and the "I don't know the first thing about defensive midfield football" of Malouda, CFC were wide open down the left for the entire game. When Barca's right winger was finally able to sling in a cross, JT muffed the header to clear it, Essien played a wild air-shot and there wasn't a CFC player within a country mile of Iniesta.

6) Bleat as much as you like about the rubbish ref, but point 5) tells the whole story, CFC had their chances to win the game without diving or relying on the ref to give them a penalty, but were not good enough to take them, or to do the simple thing and kill the game.

If CFC keep Drogba, Ballack and somehow manage to aquire GH as manager for next season, do not expect to win any trophies!
