It was Balls 10:43am on 10 Feb 2009 Has nobody else noticed that the egregious Ed Balls has repeatedly been described as "Gordon Brown's closest economic adviser for more than a decade".

If he was the one giving all the advice, how come he's not being pilloried along with Culpability Brown for the current state of the economy???

BBC on a bus and box road trip 1:57pm on 13 Sep 2008 If you MUST follow the progress of a steel box around the globe, why not just ask one of the many shipping companies? I'm fairly sure they'd e able to give you a detailed itinerary of any one one of their millions of containers over the last 12 months, instead of spending license fee money (MY money!) on such a pointless enterprise...
Unfair banking 09:44am on 16 Jul 2008 I would consider that I do indeed have free banking. My salary is, generally, paid into my current account on the 25th of the month. On that date I calculate the sum of my 10-12 Direct Debits payable on various dates over the next month, and transfer any excess into an interest bearing account.

I accept that the interest paid on the credit balance in my current account is pitiful (my average is about £0.03/month) but having said that, I very much doubt that the interest the bank makes on my balance covers the cost of posting my monthly statement.

Should I have an unexpected expense requiring a cheque, I simply log on to the internet banking system and instantly transfer the relevant amount back to my current account.

I have held this current account for the best part of 20 years and have not paid a penny in interest or any other charges in all that time.

The same goes for my credit card. I always pay my balance in full, and have never paid any interest on that either.

With very little effort, you can use the banking system to your advantage - it doesn't take much brain power!

Banks' big bailout 11:30am on 21 Apr 2008 I don't claim to be a financial genius, but as I understand it, this whole credit crunch/crisis was caused by the World's banks buying and selling packages of dodgy mortgages?

How will the problems be solved by the Bank of England doing precisely the same?
Letter to America 2:35pm on 18 Apr 2008 At least by trying (no doubt unsuccessfully) to emulate JFK, Brown won't treat his American audience to another speech about OUR 10p tax problem and what he's doing for British pensioners, as he did when standing next to George Bush the other day.

His speeches are boring enough when delivered for people who know and care what he's talking about - quite what the Yanks made of his speech is unknown...
