When Hoy's bid almost hit the buffers 10:11am on 13 Nov 2008 It's a carbon bike. It's a mix of carbon fibres and glue anyway. What did you expect them to do with it? Weld it?

The concept of an advance is that you're getting royalties you will earn before you've actually earned them. It's common across all forms of publishing. If you don't earn those royalties, why should you keep the advance payment on them?

Cycling left more riders capable of winning medals at home than UK Athletics took to Beijing.

What a waste of lottery money; waste of a learning experience for an up and coming runner; waste of airtime...

The whole thing has been a publicity show to repay her sponsors (nice shoes, nice vest... who cares?) and keep her in the public eye to generate more money spinning appearances on the pro athletics gravy train.

UK Athletics won't begin to match the successes we've had in the velodrome and in the rowing and sailing before it starts putting development and winning ahead of PR and spin.

A disgrace.

Bolt's quite impressive for a jogger, though.

I like most forms of cycle sport but I can't see why BMX is more 'relevant' or likely to do more for cycling than road, track or cross country mountain biking. A BMX track is just as artificial as a velodrome.

I'd rather watch Reade win the BMX than watch some no-hope jogger come 15th in the umpty-thousand metres, though.
British cyclists lay down marker 3:56pm on 15 Aug 2008 I think it's fair to say that GB weren't favourite for the Gold, but a warm up day? A Silver was always likely to be the minimum outcome and we were so close to the French at the Worlds that nobody would have ruled out a Gold.

Great start to the track competition. Shame Houvenhagel, Romero, Burke and Wiggins didn't get a mention on the News at lunchtime - and that they only found time to show half of a 45 second event in order to show a two minute piece on the press launch of Paula Radcliffe's ice vest, but we're used to that.

Cycling shows the rest of the GB team the way - again.
