The rise of the English South Africans 7:38pm on 05 Nov 2009 Oliver, are you in danger of being too PC and succumbing to a kind of anti-xenophobic attitude. That is of course, if xenophobia is the right description of someone truly concerned with their national identity, and not as you intimate, as a person who has an unreasonable hatred of foreigners.

rjagger pretty much hits the nail and I feel empathic towards his words, but are we getting too emotional with a rising tide of debate about the Englands XI's face of its nationality.

I think we've have probably reached the limit on the number of "foreigns" in the team, and we have to admit to the amount of good they have done for the game of English cricket over the last 2/3 decades.

Its always healthy to have alien blood to mix up the gene pool, but if you allow too much interference, then the tribal culture will slowly disappear, which is why you have the situation now, with society asking questions and questioning how we isolate our lineage without becoming xenophobic.

I am still wondering if it is at all possible to pick an England team, made up of English born players, just out of curiosity of course.

No, the key is whether it was performance enhancing or not. Did it make him win slams or other compos after his transgression. The answer is no, if he had taken it on a daily basis, he would not have played tennis any more. The deception is naughty, but not exactly life threatening to anyone is it.

I can't see what harm the ATP will come to, they made a judgement and that's that, why Agassi should be slapped around because he had the decency, finally, to come clean, when we don't really know the whole facts of the case, may be down to his notoriety.

He may rue the day he revealed his dabbling in crystals, but at least it cuts through the squeaky clean persona of the "golden" age of tennis. We now know superstars are human after all.

And since they stand to get more income from selling off those channels, then an even further reduction should be issued.

Its flawed and it can not work. The proof is in what you just highlighted, that we have no junior male players competing at the Slams.

Just how Draper intends to materialize these players is a mystery, and as with all mysteries, the answer is simple, its a blind.

If there was a ten year plan (updated every five years to a new ten year) we would be able to keep up tabs with whoever was progressing through the system and see the fruition of these youngsters at competitions. Sadly, there are not enough names to justify Drapers prognostications.

I cant see Britain ever having a decent Davis Cup any more unless several people with a GB passport from another nation come to live here, who can play decent tennis. Imported pro's maybe be one avenue of induction, but the LTA's road is bumpy, full of holes and is downhill for the foreseeable future.
Murray nears the summit 00:49am on 20 Aug 2009 I dont think Murray cares a hoot what we think, he's trying to be mentally strong enough to take on Federer and Nadal and that if means being as arrogant as past champions, then good luck to him.
Off court he is jovial and well-mannered and bigs up his opponents and praises them when he wins or loses. He makes hundreds of interviews a year, and has to answer many types of gruelling questions, so its natural he'll say something insensitive to sensitive minded people, he cant be perfect, he's just a tennis player FGS !.
I think this sums it all up for me, when people say Murray doesn't deserve to be No2 because Nadal is injured:-

Nice one Frog, and if we add up all the matches Murray, Nadal and Federer have missed through injury or illness, then it would be pretty neck and neck, so Murray's ranking is accurate, tough tiity if you cant accept that fact.

As far as Del Potro and his fitness is concerned, many of you will have to realise that he will never achieve the fitness levels of Murray, because he plays a totally different game and his height will hinder him getting to Andy's level of physique. Sure he could get his stamina levels up, but strength is just as important as stamina and Murray has high levels of both. But Del Boy has different weapons and can produce devastating forehand winners, so its all a balance of brawn v brains or a combination of both, thats what makes tennis so interesting today.
Faldo - a true sporting great 02:51am on 13 Jun 2009 You are a glum lot.

Its called the Honours list for that reason, to award sportsmen/women for their services to their chosen sport.

Some are knighted or awarded other honours.

Nick Faldo was one of our best sportsman and to be recognised this way is a well-deserved achievement for him.

Getting paid to do a job is essential or how do you pay your expenses, so its a sport, so what, its still a job, but if you dont win anything, you dont get paid !!.....more people profiteered from his endeavours than he got winnings, and if he enjoyed all the hard work and defeats and travelling the world for months at a time as well as the winning and trophies, then good luck to him.

Maybe you should spend every waking hour honing your skills and throwing what social life you had down the drain to pursue greatness in your career and live life on the bread-line while your at it, but I doubt you have one iota of Faldo's dedication and determination or strength of will.

For you information, a lot of golfers profits go to charity, many do pro-celeb tournies for just that reason, and Faldo has set up coaching schools and his series tournaments for young hopefuls, so there is a lot of "voluntary" pay back by Faldo, now he has retired.

You all seem very small minded, (not you JC) jealous and full of conceit.
