Social democrat failure 08:07am on 08 Jun 2009 The election results demonstrate just how ridiculous democracy can be when the populous have no idea what they're actually voting for.
Big city blues 12:35pm on 20 May 2009 Paris isn't France. Nowhere else in France are the issues of the balieues so important - for the simple reason that nowhere else in France has as many. Paris is dirty and overcrowded, whereas the best part of the country is sparsely populated open countryside.

I don't think he's a bad ref - but he has won a reputation for liking a fast running game - which means any attempt to slow down the ball will result in penalties. Which is exactly the sort of game Wales wanted and England would have known this. So there can be no excuses for the yellow cards.

With the ELVs in place, there aren't many alternatives - England must learn to open up and play some fast paced expressive rugby, which they are entirely capable of. They have to get used to the idea that the old style forwards dominated encounters are being consigned to history. Like it or not.

Are England good enough to beat Ireland? Absolutely, but they must show a little more confidence, keep ball in hand, and make sure that it's the Irish pack who fall into the yellow-card trap.

They're scared that their market capital will plummet on the basis of speculation, even when the fact is that they are still very strong businesses.

But you can't tell a broker not to jump on the panic selling bandwagon, regardless of the facts.

If they were all private businesses - they wouldn't be looking to the tax payer at all unless they actually were in big trouble.

Perhaps then, rather than asking the government for cash - they should simply be buying back their own share capital, with a view to getting out of the market altogether?
