Moderation: Let's talk it over (2) 1:47pm on 14 Aug 2009 The reason for my post above is not to generally complain about the posts that have been moderated (I agree most should have been) but about some of the posts that remain.

To me some of those are equally off topic and abusive, I can if you like, give examples if needs be but I'm just making the point. Some people are 'indulged', some are not.

Also in terms of 'off topic' it seems a fluid notion, as you say an individual judgement call to the host. Perhaps in the blog in question, what the question was got lost amongst the moderation, as well as the ability to 'comment on a comment'.

I'd add that it's also strange how one poster can make 30 odd posts that are either referred to or removed by moderators, and can continue to do so. I'm not sure someone would get away with that on the boards.

To me, there is inconsistent moderation, I'm not necessarily arguing that all or any posts hidden are okay, but it's the posts that remain where some ARE off topic.

I would discuss this on the blog above but I fear I might get modded for being off topic, while others have been 'indulged'.

If it's a big organisation being organised should be easier not "a bit piecemeal", what are all these people in middle management for if they can't manage, it seems from the above comment they are more interested in managing their own fiefdoms - which seems at odds to a corporation providing a public service.

I'm confident enough to say that several people might say you may have, in the past, responded to their questions but not answered them.

Nick, when you initially decided to start the consultation process way back in November, you posted on the "bbc.co.uk" board in order to 'engage' with the POV Television board users about it's future.

Did you dogmatically choose to post there as you thought it was the correct place to post it, when statistically you would have has a much larger response has you posted on the Television board where the traffic is several times the one of the 'bbc.co.uk' board?

Second (follow on) question:

As a result do you think this action alone set out the stall of your mindset (as well as the manner in which you were perceived) - it was more important for you to post in the right place (in your opinion) than get the largest response from people that use the board under discussion?

Third question:

Do you in your current position at the BBC think it absurd that the BBC doesn't have (and hasn't had for a while) a coherent policy for messageboards and online services across the BBC. Do you think you and your colleagues would have more less problems to deal with had the BBC developed operational systems in an ordered and consistent manner, leading to no absurd inconsistencies?

For the most obvious and most glaring example: You can freely talk about non BBC television programmes but not on the television board itself.

Fourth questions:

What are the posting figures for the BBC Television board for May and June?
