The lessons of Lehman 08:39am on 15 Sep 2009 There has nothing been learned by the so-called 'Lessons of Lehman', the whole debacle was the first of a series of manufactured financial crises to steer the global economy towards a particular goal, that of one-world government, one-world currency, one new world order. The second of the manufactured financial crises is on the way, and is already showing signs of its appearance in mortgage lending that was supposedly higher quality than the sub-primes, i.e., 'althays' and 'option arms' type mortgages.

Option Arms type mortgages brought borrowers in through very low 'teaser' interest rates, but would reset at some later date to a higher interest rate, which for many borrowers will be more than they can afford, and they will end up defaulting on their payments and end up losing their home. Interest rate resets are about to occur.

Just as banks around the world mired themselves in the sub-prime mortgages, and ended up getting burned, they have equally mired themselves in these types of mortgages too, and are about to get burned yet again, signaling for another bailout.

The overall picture is one of a balloon that became over-inflated to the point of bursting under its own success, so a decision was made to deflate the balloon in a series of controlled deflations, and that is what we are going through. However, what it also provides is the gobbling up of competing banks by the larger ones that are always seeking to consolidate their competition under their corporation.

The elites that own and run the largest banks are determined to shape the world's future to their vision through domination under the banner of a New World Order, and through a series of Hegelian Dialectic exercises have practically achieved their goal.

The role of citizen journalism in modern democracy 9:27pm on 24 Jun 2009 "What we are seeing in television is audience fragmentation". Actually, what we are seeing is societal fragmentation, as groups and individuals polarise themselves against the vision of our country's future being set by the government (regardless which party is elected - it's all the same), and its pandering towards business interests, rather than that of the people.

They are doing this even at the cost of civilian rights and freedoms, so citizen jounalism, both professional and amateur, is extremely important, for the citizen reports the raw data, unspun, uncensored, and as it actually happens. Yet the government have seen fit to protect the accountability of the police, by making a law that states one cannot photograph or film them. Not by any stretch of the imagination, is transparency and accountability, but a move towards corporate facism hiding methods of self-protection and self-preservation of a status quo that most of society disagrees with...or would if they could get the real handle of truth on the subject.

Our democracy is a sham and a facade. Most professional journalists know this, and are denied telling the truth about it. Journalists like Pilger and Fisk still try to do the kind of journalism that actually counts, and act as the voice of reason in a unreasonable world. The rest just mimic being journalists, and do in the process do immense damage to the people's hopes for having a voice on their future...in fact, they damage democracy by their lazy contempt for peddling the spin of the government word for word, without even so much as committing themselves to an ounce of actual investigation: they are mere parrots.

Citizen journalism will be the saving factor for the people. It won't be BBC news, or Sky, or any other large news corporation, and eventually, the citizens will make them pay the price by boycotting their products. Truth, you can't be trusted with it, because most journalists are too scared to do the right thing, and to be the right thing, and that is to be the watchdogs for the people. If all journalists actually did their job, and fought for the principles of their industry...the last decade would not have happend the way it did. Many Iraqi and Afghans would still be alive today, and possibly, the invasions of both Iraq and Afghanistan may never have happend.

No wonder the country is fragmenting...the people's voice has been silent for many a year, and in the interim, corporate forces are pushing us all towards a corporate totalitarianism, and you journalists sit back and remain silent and are allowing it to happen without any investigation whatsoever. Thanks for nothing...the people will spread the 'real' news and truth their way. You are now redundant!
The Conspiracy Files: 7/7 3:25pm on 24 Jun 2009 Kaybraes: "The Muslim community is the offender in this case..." I'm sorry, Kay, but that is a very obnoxious statement. Are we to blame all Christians for the witch burnings of earlier centuries, or perhaps even, the Inquisition? The offenders (or patsies) were individual persons aligned to the Muslim cause by both religious and ideological zeal. You cannot blame carteblanche a whole people or nation on the actions of individuals. Then again, your statement could be taken as an attempt to derail comments to the conspiratorial tone of the 7/7 bombings.

After doing research for myself, the conclusion I have drawn (but subject to change) is that the 7/7 attacks became good 'PR' for the reasons on the so-called 'War On Terror', particularly at a time when criticism of the war was reaching ever increasing vociferous levels. Bear in mind that the Iraq invasion was based utterly on lies, obsfucation, and corporate interests, all hiding behind the cause of fighting terrorism.

Coincidences of similarities between the attacks of 9/11 and 7/7 are alarming and most certainly thought-provoking. One such coincidence is that on days of both attacks, emergency services were already in place before the attacks took place holding supposed drills on the type of scenarios that actually transpired. The point of conspiracies is that they draw needed attention to the scenario of the conspiracy itself, and that they seek to provoke investigation into who ultimately benefits from the attack?

The wider picture (of which the attacks are a part of) is an incredibly nightmarish vision of a move to Corporate Totalitarianism on a global scale...and it is still unfolding, especially so whilst most of the population sleep their accepting way into its grip. This programme, will I expect seek to paint the conspiracy as being nothing more than the warped thoughts of fringe extremists, disgruntled with the government. An attempt to discredit and whitewash over the concerns and alarm of those whom are investigating the attacks. It is very important to use the faculty of discernment when doing the research, and there are plenty of people out there who are doing just that.

Always bear in mind that these events are not unconnected, but are pieces in the global jigsaw of a world being steered towards a corporate ideology that if shown in full crystal clarity would frighten the living daylights out of the people. Quiet though...the people sleep a uneasy and disquieting dream, best not to awake them to the truth, they could not take it.
Lisbon: A Pandora's box 8:38pm on 20 Jun 2009 An issue as important as this should be aired by the media and press. They should be pushing for a referendum to be held for the rest of Britain. Why are you not doing so? Why are you - as a journalist, and along with other journalists not openly discussing the consequences to Britain of joining the Euro-dictat?

If you truly believed in the democratic process, you would be miffed that Brown & Co. are taking us all into a corporate dictatorship, and not even allowing the people their voice about it! You would be shouting it from every newspaper and TV station, but all we get is obsfucation and misdirections.

I can tell you now, I will never accept the Euro-state or Euro-law, in place of my British history, British self-soverignty, or British law, and there are hundreds of thousands of others who won't also. We are an island self-soverign state, and I will fight to keep it that way!
The prime minister is safe - for now 09:30am on 09 Jun 2009 Why is it that most people in Britain still believe3 we are a politically self-sovereign nation? Our treasonous politicians have already signed and ratified the Lisbon Treaty, and the Treaty came into effect on 1st January, 2009.
Our current encumbents are now (EU) lawfully required to impose the EU state upon us; they are lawfully required to harmonise British law with EU law, and EU law in every instance trumps British law. ID cards, bio-metric databases, and other Orwellian and police state implementations are all part of the process of harmonizing with the EU.

Eventually, Westminster will be abolished, Parliament will be dissolved for good, forever, and as from 1st of January of this year, we are now effectively run from Brussels by unelected politburo bodies appointed on our behalf.

Of course, we are still in the early stages of implementation, but the media is not reporting the full truth of what assimilating into the EU will lead to. Why has Brown not gone to the queen to ask for Parliament to be dissolved so that a general election can be called for? Well, in truth, under EU law, it would be unlawful. Ireland is to get another referendum, whereas the rest of Britain receives none; and the reason for this is because our politicians have already ratified the Treaty on our behalf. You all need to wake up and smell the EU dictatorship and its police state!
Burnley show the way forward 10:56am on 26 May 2009 Just a few thoughts and observations I'd like to add. In relation to what an earlier poster stated, every team begins the football season with the same amount of points, knowing that if they can achieve certain positions in the table, they can either win the league, secure a 2nd spot auto promotion, or a chance to play for the third promotion spot. It is understandable to perceive the seemingly unfairness of being the team finishing third, and then having to continue to compete for promotion against the 4th, 5th, and 6th positions. I can only imagine that it is a money-spinner franchise by the F.A., but also the chance for teams to appear at Wembley, alongside the cup campaigns. It also provides for a dynamic, rather than an anti-climatic finish to the season, but I do grant you, it does seem unfair for the team originally achieving third spot. Nevertheless, I doubt any team would turn down the chance to play for the third promotion spot if given the chance.

This year it was Burnley who grabbed the final placement, and as much as it may grieve other teams, Burnley's advancement into the Premier League is still merited. When you look back at their season, at the money available to the manager, and the size of the squad, and the amount of games played, they could have easily folded through fatigue, or failed through lack of resources. They didn't! They stuck to their belief, cemented by a team spirit instilled by a shrewd and very positive manager.

Just because a team is considered a 'big' club, it is not an arbiter of guaranteed success. It is the consistent 'quality' of play with each game that brings in the dividends, and that is the message to all clubs, big and small. Yes, having the financial resources helps to bring in 'quality' players, but unless the team gels, it can easily become a failed expense.

Burnley is a small town, with a small population from which to draw its support, but even so, their success this season will bring in larger attendances, and this is something worthy of note to Burnley's support...do your bit and attend in larger numbers, week in, week out. The symbiosis between the team and its support cannot be under-estimated, it is so very important. There has to be a balance between the two to maintain belief, and to help bring in the success. If it becomes a one-sided affair, then mediocrity or even failure will not be too far away...see Newcastle for an example.

I would like to see Burnley's first season in the Premier League to be one about consolidation of merit to remain in the PL. Avoiding the drop back to the Championship is the target, so a mid-table placement at end of next season will be quite respectable.

A big thankyou to Owen Coyle and the Burnley Football team, for providing a belief and hope, and indeed success, to a town that has too long been impoverished of either. Burnley folk are smiling again, and not without merit!

The quality of any democracy will always be proportionate to the quality of the relationship between the governed and those that govern, or would seek to govern. British democracy has been in decline for many years, because on the one hand, the governed abrogated their responsibility to participate in the democratic process, opening a vacuum that was filled with the self-interest of the few that do participate: and oh, how they have participated self-interestingly! Compounding this further, is how self-interest has sought to consolidate and solidify its position through the downgrading of the people's freedom and liberty via state intrusion.

Into this mix, we can add the machinations of global business and the consolidating of their interests with those managing the legislatory offices. Case in point, the tides of corporatism and globalisation breaking upon the shores of sovereignty and national identity.
The zealousness with which Gordon Brown has entered into 'bed-relations' for a federalised European Superstate, and in the process, denying the British people their say on the issue, speaks volumes on the 'intolerability' of his mismanaged administration.

It is not in the least acceptable for the governed to be lied to, duped, obsfucated against, or to be ignored by those that govern, or by those that would seek to govern. It is not acceptable that those that govern impose rules and regulations to which they exempt themselves, but which the governed must follow like sheep. Like religion, business should equally be kept separate from state, but ruled and regulated by state, lest we arrive at the circumstances being incremenatlly unfolded as we go about our daily struggle to attain a quality of life denied us by economic pressure.

Britain requires a government that is for the people and their historical legacy. A government that upholds steadfast honour and respectability as virtues in which the confidence and trust of the governed remain a focus of enjoyment and happiness. The British people do not want political union with Europe, but they do want trade and trade agreements. Political union with Europe is a business idea for business interests, but that each country's sovereignty is a obstacle to that idea, hence the continued assault upon each country's sovereign way of life and identity. Britain and the British are for sale, and are being sold for business interests. If the governed do not start to take a keener interest in the issues affecting them, then a corporate totalitarian future will be the cost of their apathy and inaction: both of which are taken as consent to the dilution (and practical extermination) of their sovereignty and nationhood.

The expenses scandal has opened the door to public revue and criticism, but it is a small interconnecting piece in the whole jigsaw of Britain's declining confidence in its democracy.

The governed need to understand that they do have a say, not just every four years or so, but everyday, but this needs to be backed up by a free press and media that should act as both the eyes and ears and voice of the people. It is they that should be bringing light to the shadows, it is they that should be uncovering the 'dirty deeds being done cheaply'. I applaud the Telegraph's expose of the expenses scandal. Let this be the start of the media's claim to righting itself as the people's watchdog. Let it be a 'new' beginning in objective and truthful reporting, regain the confidence of the people, and watch them take a greater interest in what is said and done in their name. Any other way, and Britain will fail!
British politics isn't really corrupt, is it? 09:46am on 18 May 2009 To use the word 'corrupt' is to conjure up all sorts of images and fears. I fully accept that the MPs whose questionable expenses claims have been published, believe in themselves to have done nothing wrong, but truly, this just adds another dimension to the argument.
Certain practices uncovered, such as the 'flipping' of one's main house, certainly looks a questionable practice, but the whole furore is a compounded one, built upon past transgressions.
The real debate surrounding this issue is one of trust. Can the people of Britain trust their politicians, and the answer to this is a definite NO! This is where the damage has really been caused. There exists now a very wide divide between the people and the politicians, and it is not one that has appeared suddenly, but is one that has over the years been driven into the very heart of people's understanding of the democractic process.
Political decisions and behaviour, particularly over the last decade or so, has been perceived to be very damaging to the cohesion of our society. The people want an input, deserve an input, into how their future is to be shaped, but the current incumbent Labour government has seen fit to deny that input through a seemingly patriachical condescension.
Political union with Europe, the denial of a referendum, and the fact that 75% of British law is now decided in Brussels, all amounts to a derogatory perception of the sought-for Euro-superstate. British people don't want to see, or be a part of a federalised Europe, but our government has ratified agreements in direct contrast to the people's wishes. This is just one hammer-blow upon the wedge that is separating the people from the state...trust has evaporated, no matter whatever a politician may bleat in spin and soundbite. There are other hammer-blows that can be identified, but the gist of my point is already made succinct.
The British people want change and reform, but most importantly, they want a say in how policy is to affect them. This expenses debacle really drove the wedge home, and has shattered trust into non-existence...the people have lost confidence in this government, and the tri-party system, which is why many are calling for Parliament's dissolution and for a general election. It is why when the election is finally called, the three main parties are going to receive such a hammering, they will stagger about for years. The people will not forget, nor forgive!
Map of the Week: Trust in Parliament 04:55am on 17 May 2009 As a Englishman, born and bred in this historical land, I sit here bewildered, angered, feeling extreme disappointment, and a deep sense of hopelessness.

Everyday I struggle to make ends meet. I work, and yet I live in constant recession, and I cannot afford to buy myself a item of new clothing, except perhaps, once every six months. I have to borrow money sometimes just to buy food to get me to payday at the end of the month. Do I fiddle and steal to make my life that little bit more comfortable? No, I don't. I make do and try to live within my means. In fact, I suppose one would consider me as a peasant, a low member of the labouring class. That as it may be, I am honest and steadfast in my fortitude to bear my circumstance without resorting to taking happiness or comfort from anyone else. That's a principle I believe in, and I am sure that for most others, it would resonate similarly.

Is it true that we should allow a little corruption in order that our society does not breakdown? If you answer 'yes' to this, then perhaps you are as confused and bewildered as I am, but from a obviously different mindset...for you may be wondering (like Stephen Fry) what all the fuss is about?

For me, and I suspect many others, it is not simply about the 'fiddle', but about the 'principle', and the expectation of it being upheld by those we entrust with the keys to our public coffers, and to the betterment of our country. It has been shown quite explicitly that we the people have been fools, and have been taken for a ride by those we are supposed to trust.

Business is now dictating our lives, and is steering the British people towards a federal Euro-superstate we do not want to be a part of. No referendum, no voice to declare our own intentions for our own future. We are on a ride of globalisation that is detrimental to our country, and Brown and his Euro-cohorts see nothing wrong in dictating the terms for us, in selling our sovereignty away. Trust, Mr. Easton, as you rightly state, is a important adhesive of our society, any society. Today, as you might well fathom, it is non-existent in this country.

Argue for me if you can, why I should trust the current incumbents of any party serving as a representative of the people, when all along, it is quite evident they have been serving themselves? Damage control is now underway, but it won't wash with the people. We will see a number of incumbents used as scapegoats and sacrifices, in order to feed to the people so that they give back their trust. It won't work!

Yes, there may well be incumbents whom have not 'fiddled', but you can't expect me or anyone else to believe that they did not know the system, and how others abused it. They kept silent for their own good, and that is dishonourable. Trust? I can't remember what that is. I know the government trust in me to pay my taxes, and to pay taxes on everything I buy, particularly they trust that I pay my council tax. If I don't, I am soon summoned to court and threatend and menaced to pay it. Afterall, if I don't pay my taxes, they will be less in the public coffers to fiddle from, and we can't have that can we? Perhaps, whilst the people were sleeping, corruption became an accepted tradition, and that we are finding out that in corruption we can trust, and that we the peasants, sorry people, should be happy with our lot?

Argue for me then, Mr Easton, whom do I trust with my vote? Is there any point? Are there any maps or statistics that point me in the right direction. Oh, and one other thing I might ask...have newspaper editors suddenly had a epithany for truth, because from the media for the last decade or so, it has spun the spin that the fiddlers have spat at the people, without so much as a ounce of journalistic merit being applied. Why the sudden turnaround, what's around the corner coming at us?
