Computing for older users: Patronising or practical? 11:14am on 11 Nov 2009 I think the pricing is all wrong and it would have been far better to use second-hand machines which have been refurbished as there are some really good spec machines which end up in landfills. Linux can run on some really old machines so I don't see a problem with that. However when you can pop into any of the main supermarkets and pick up a 15" laptop for £399 running Windows 7 then I think the business is aiming at the well off pensioner like Betty.

My mum started using computers in her 70's and I never knew until she told me what she was doing using Windows printing etc I was floored. yes we all seem to underestimate what older folk can do. However look at the number of pensioners using mobile phones and you can see that they will grasp technology with both hands.
Football's trusts must keep the faith 7:38pm on 24 Oct 2009 I agree that football fans are stupid as they will chase trophies and glory without thinking about the consequences, which is why so many UK clubs are in debt. Barca are a special case but then again in Spain and Germany the fan owned club is not unusual. Barca has a particular political angle to it which cannot be replicated in the UK unless we have a military coup and they ban mancunian or scouse then the Utd's ot liverpools might emerge lol.

I love Barcelona because its pays UNICEF to allow its name on its shirt, I repeat it pays UNICEF, which I believe is the most unselfish act from any football club.I have every intention of donating an educational product free to UNICEF in the near future for them to use.

FC United are the closest to the Barca model and it's a good club which is well run but it is viewed with suspicion by the owner run clubs. It can be done but it will take time for the other clubs saying NO to managers and fans and perhaps giving the reasons why would help fans understand. It's called communication and the way some clubs operate you'd think they were freemasons!!

The men who witnessed sporting history 12:02pm on 24 Aug 2009 What people seem to forget or ignore is that Jesse Owens was a second class citizen in the USA in just as much as the jews were in nazi germany. Owens couldn't eat in white restaurants, had to use coloured only bathrooms etc, so when all these commentators harp on about Hitler etc Yes Owens did shatter Hitlers dream. However what's the point if you are not free in your own country and yet a nation of nazi's take you to their hearts. That says more about the USA racial segregation policy than it did about Hitler.
Berlino the Bear - love him or loathe him? 11:08am on 24 Aug 2009 I was in tears of laughter when he dropped the jamaican athlete but what was even funnier she waited for him to pick her up! which shows how the athletes had taken Berlino to their hearts!

The pic of Berlino and Usain Bolt in that pose was probably the defining moment of the championships and is now my screensaver . I think Berlino's raised the status of mascots to another level, I love that bear and whoever is underneath it should be given a medal as they were brilliant. trust me you have to be an athlete to wear that costume and move around like they did. I am hoping that we employ whoever was underneath it for 2012. I wanted to buy a bear but i heard they are sold out! I want the BBC to interview the bear so get out there and find who they are.

If i was Berlino I'd allow them to use it for charity events school visits as it could be used as a great sports motivator for kids.

I think we need to start a campaig bring Berlino to the 2012 games.
Monday. Chicago O'Hare 10:50pm on 16 Apr 2009 Why is the BBC wasting time and money to look at Obamas 100 days in office when it has such a cynical view of his administration. Comparing him to the music man is indeed unkind and poor journalism. The BBC did a good job in talking up our current plight in the UK and I don't see it doing much to alter people's outlook. However i notice that it still has those stupid house auction programmes on in the daytime despite the BBC entertainment dept not realising that there has been a housing crash in the UK.
The Battle of Broughton 3:26pm on 05 Apr 2009 These people are just being middle England reactionaries. Burglars would not use the street view as it doesn't show escape routes etc, its the satellite view which provides the high tech robber with far more information. The street view is pretty rubbish really but I really cannot see the point of it outside the major cities but Google has a plan no doubt.

I see they intend to resurrect the neighbourhood watch scheme, that might help as they may actually know who their neighbours are.

Someone mentioned Google should offer a postal service are they having a laugh is it 1929 0r 2009?

Kristina Grimes was working in Manchester working in sales for Dandara but as the bottom has fallen out of the new apartment sales she obviously moved on. The two of them seem to be at most business exhibitions as guest speakers. As for Lindi how can she offer business advice to companies when she's only about 18 years old and has no previous business experience. I expected her to get involved with lots of youth charities but seems like she didn't.
