Wednesday 22 October 2008 10:09pm on 23 Oct 2008 I've got to admit the faux righeous indignation shown by Paxman was funny, Hezza (and probably the Tories) had realised that there wasn't much to go on regard to donation and frequenting with Bondstyled Ruskis was a no go as Mandy was a deckhand...it was nearly as funny as when Jezza was talking to Milliband - Milli was on all serious talking about something - Jezza was checking what was stuck on his shoe.

Keep up the good work ...

..oh and if you could get the polster with the dodgy barnet that would be great as you could go for a comedy award.
Agenda pressure 1:07pm on 23 Oct 2008 I'm not bothered about what stories to run: that's your business but when Peston wanders in saying I've meet the fella and he's probably not making this up is pretty poor.
Storm over Corfu 12:58pm on 23 Oct 2008 I'm no expert on journalism or politics but the coverage on this by the BBC does seem a little - full?
My main surprise was Robert Peston, the business editor, who became involved in a political story and wrote:
'The first thing to say about Nat Rothschild, whom I've met a couple of times, is that he is a tenacious, steely individual - who does not make allegations lightly.'
The insinuation here is 'I know him and he is not a lier therefore someone else is not telling the truth'

This is a very strange thing to say because a) he does not report on politics
b) because you've met someone a couple of times does mean you know them or their motive and
c) I expected better of a journalist who was doing a good job in the recent business climate and was just adding further hearsay which allows the BBC to be attacked.

It could be forgiven as blogs do allow a little more flexability but to have him on national radio for his 'opinion' was a poor show indead.

(this whole episode was handled badly: just look at the Paxman Heseltine interview on Newsnight - very painful for Mr Paxman!)

I agree that if McCain goes for the Ayers point he is walking straight into a massive bear trap as Obama will respond in a more of less casual way that will make McCain lose his composure and with in any chance of winning. - 'Mr McCain wants to talk about issues of the Vietnam war where he fought. I was eight at the time...'

My advice - whatever Obama says agree with but and a springle of americano.

I thought someone might say that. My point is McCain has a choice: he is struggling as he is no-man's land - he can't fight Obama as his very impressive campaigning machine is one of the best even seen (iphone anyone?); he can't keep going on that he is maverick outside of Washington that with his zanny side-kick (Saturday night live (and Mat Damon) are killing her (despite what he says)).

So he has to instill the what Republics are about and how over the last 8 years they have done bad things but there are good things also.

The reason being trying to suggest that Obama is a muslim terrrorist doesn't wash with the swing voters that he needs. It may strengthen his base but that is not good enough.

(PS - don't have to live in the US to realise what Bush/Cheney have done - it's plain for the world to see ;) )

My point is more about strategy than any political point of view. For every Obama support that goes out to vote he has to persuade his supports to do also instead of stay at home.
