Some creationists have been doctored 1:35pm on 19 Aug 2009 Try explaining the human Alu element, or homologous endogenous retroviruses in the hominid/primate lineage using a creation model. In fact try to refute any of the evidence acquired using molecular genetics.

Hardly room for interpretation and different "paradigms" or points of view.

I expect a parsimonious answer with bated breath OT.
Darwin and atheism 11:07pm on 14 Aug 2009 Plantinga is a loon, with an extremely basic grasp of modern evolutionary biology. By his own argument he undermines the very religious beliefs he wish to uphold; that evolved cognitive functions are inherently un-natural and thus their products are questionable.

Dover Vs Kitzmiller was never about atheism. It was about an attempt to shoe-horn the pseudo-science of ID into classrooms. Such poorly researched, ill concieved drivel that even their strongest proponents admitted under oath, that Astrology could be regarded as a science using their definition.

ID is dead.

Get over it.

If the big bumper book of belief for boys can't turn, then why would chosen fragments do the job? Additionally wasn't moros the greek god of doom, with the word subsequently being used in the early 1900's to describe those who were "dull"?

Hardly biblical by any standards.

Wanted: Leading Scientist (theists need not apply) 1:58pm on 05 Aug 2009 Most people don't have an issue with Francis Collins chosen belief, and certainly no one is doubting the quality of his work as he is an exception geneticist and humanitarian.

The problem is that he is a little bit to happy to insert god into all the gaps that science has at the moment. I've heard him speak a few times, and each time he brings up the same old chestnuts; God started the universe, god sat around a bit, god put the spark of intelligence into Homo sapiens, god sat around a bit, god sent his son down to earth, god sat around a bit. Gappy god looks a little pale compared to his old testament bombastic self, almost not worth believing in.

That said I think he is a pretty good choice for NIH director. He is an excellent communicator, scientist and all round nice chap. I think the current furore is a bit of a storm in a tea cup, and this is me the atheist/agnostic/Zeus believer speaking.
Science and religion 2:33pm on 03 Aug 2009 Morality is not some gift handed down from on high. Ethologists study behaviour that could rightly be regarded as a form of primitive morality in many organisms. Social animals are notorious for resolving disputes in competitive bouts rather than killings with structures based more on how the animals "represent" themselves rather than how they act. Even the humble hermit crab would rather engage in a competitive display of shell rapping rather than out and out intraspecific killing, to claim a new shell.

If "morality" is a divine gift, then why do animals appear so acutely attuned to it?

I don't believe OT, I know to within a measurable degree of testable, repeatable limits. Methodological or scientific naturalism is the underlying epistemology of all science, whether you like to admit it or not. It is the intellectual well spring from which the sciences expand, regardless of the specific field.

Men of faith may study the sciences, but their belief in the supernatural is limited entirely to speculation outside of their research. They may make throw away comments about seeing the face of "God" or finding evidence of "his" fingerprints in their work; but they don't insert "him" into their equations or publications. They may say that they are practicising theists, but their work indicates otherwise.

I really would love to know of any sciences that study the supernatural; if you could elaborate on that throw away statement that would be peachy.
