The Best Christmas Movie Ever 5:23pm on 13 Nov 2009 The worst Christmas movie ever made surely has to be Lucasfilm's 1978 "Star Wars Holiday Special". The mixture of musical numbers, terrible comedy sketches and an animated sequence drawn by artists who clearly had taken too much LSD all add up to a film so bad even George Lucas has said he would like to hunt down and destroy every copy.

Although, the Star Wars Holiday Special may not actually qualify as it was originally broadcast on TV, not in the cinema. In which case the worst film would have to be Santa Claus Conquers the Martians, a 1960's B-movie in which the Martians, kidnap Santa and take him back to Mars to bring happiness to the children of Mars.
Screening Process 6:41pm on 16 Sep 2009 I had the misfortune a coupe of weeks ago to see Megashark v's Giant Octopus. On the basis of the trailer, I thought it was worth a few quid to see what I hoped would be a low budget creature flick. I like B-movies, so I wasn't expecting much beyond a few laughs and some bad special effects. What transpired was that they must have spent a fortune on that trailer, because the rest of the film was tedious, and acted by people with less talent than Orloondo Bland. Have you seen this joyous movie Dr K?
Northern exposure 4:20pm on 04 Sep 2009 Ah the Unst bus shelter. We passed it only last week when we were on holiday, It has had a bit of a makeover since your photograph was taken. The decor is now a fine shade of pink and the John Peel Memorial Traffic Island has now been completed.

John Boorman: an exorcism 2:22pm on 04 Aug 2009 I fear your reconciliation with John Boorman may have to wait a while, not least because according to the imdb he is currently directing a remake of The Wizard of Oz.
Just how much faster are those controversial swimsuits? 3:45pm on 31 Jul 2009 It would seem an easy solution Smog-Tastic, and one that would cost absolutely nothing to implement. But unfortunately those swimsuit manufacturers contribute a lot of money to the sport.

Might boost the popularity of women's racing too ;-)
Bruising day of punch and counter-punch 09:06am on 09 Jul 2009 To everyone who is criticizing Pietersen, what would you do about it? You can hardly drop him, he was once again England's higest scorer. Daft shots seem to be part of his game, but if he gets 70 runs first, I'm pretty sure the skipper would take that every time.
Pieces of blog and even more of your 3D thinking 7:16pm on 13 May 2009 On the subject of great little cinemas, I'd like to tout in a good word for the Old Market Hall in Shrewsbury. Situated upstairs in a buildng on stilts, it has only a single screen and shows a mixture of arthouse films, foreign films, and some up-to-date blockbusters. A couple of months ago there was even a screening of the silent classic Metropolis, accompanied by a live piano player.

It's a great little place, with probably only a couple of hundred seats, which include double "lovers" seats up the back for that old time experience. The staff are friendly and whoever selects the films clearly has a passion for movies.
Blog reply replies: You say Piranha, I say Crimes of the Future 6:47pm on 05 May 2009 Liam, Cannibal Women in the Avocado Jungle of Death has never been released on the UK on DVD. However, it is available on Ebay. Following Dr K's recommendation, I bought a copy, which cost me about £8 and arrived from the USA in about a week.

I can confirm it is indeed a good film, and it far my epxectations of any film with such a trashy B-movie like title. Cannibal Women is a low-budget satire of the highest order. It's a great spoof of everything from the entire Feminist movement to Indiana Jones, Star Wars and Apocalypse Now.
Is Twenty20 too much of a good thing? 5:53pm on 17 Jul 2008 It is only a matter of time until Test cricket is consigned to history. Or at least played before an audience the size of your average county game.

How many of the fans watching test cricket are middle-aged and above? I doubt there are many young fans deciding to watch test matches instead of 20-20. Everything in todays society is instant. A game which take 4 hours to play provides just that.
