Tend to agree though Daly was getting a bit out of hand at one point.
Still a helluva player though and would love to see him back among the contenders again. The game needs a few 'characters' as I personally find the USPGA tour a trifle dull.

Woods image battered but not beyond repair 11:46am on 03 Dec 2009 I have some sympathy for Tiger in all of this, having speculation about his private life being plastered over the tabloids.

But I think this speaks volumes about the type of people who buy and read this trash - doesn't matter who the celeb is, the masses want to know every minute detail of their lives. It just goes to show how shallow and boring their own lives must be.

For sure, he is arguably the greatest golfer of all time. However, he must start to realise that without the goodwill of the fans, he risks becoming just another faceless player. He is excused by the media for ignoring the public as he is "focussed" or "in the zone" when he plays. But the scowling when he's not playing his best, the spitting which he seems to do a lot of these days, totally ignoring autograph hunters, and the under the breath swearing, may ultimately cost him many fans.

I understand the enormous pressure he must be under, with everybody wanting a piece of him. But if he wants to be 'human', he needs to start showing human touches.
Old Firm flight not so fanciful 3:26pm on 13 Oct 2009 I don't understand why anyone thinks the OF would automatically challenge the established "big 4" just because they were admitted to the Premier League. This is pure conjecture, much like saying "IF we had scored first, we'd have won". There's just no way of knowing this. The OF record against English clubs is so-so, giving no reason to beleive that this would be substantially improved just because they were competing more regularly.

As for the comment that OF grounds "dwarf" most Prem grounds - this is just not the case. Ibrox may be larger than Wigan, Hull, Portsmouth, but not much bigger than Everton, Villa, Liverpool, and smaller than Man City and Man Utd. As one poster commented, since when has having a big ground been a recipe for success?

Then we have the global brands argument. I doubt if sales of OF merchandise world-wide are anywhere near those of the really big clubs, and moving to the Prem League is unlikely to make a significant impact (unless they won actually something!).

What is required is a total reconstruction of Scottish football to ensure a more competitive environment, which would in turn improve attendances, generating more income and hopefully TV money. In the current economic climate, the product has to be exceptional to encourage consumers to part with their hard-earned. Sadly, this will never happen because the OF have a vested interest in retaining the status quo (if they can't leave they want to retain domination), and would veto any changes. The only way, perhaps, to force the issue, would be for all non-OF clubs to resign from the SPL and form a new competition. This just might concentrate the minds of the OF and the governing bodies to take a long hard look at all levels of the game, and try to find a way to establish a set-up fit for purpose, where the OF and all other clubs could flourish.

Firstly it's not open in the true sense, as many players receive invitations. The venues are tricked-up with ridiculously narrow fairways and brutal rough, and the greens are often like concrete. They also try to ensure that no winner will ever be more than 9 under par. Why??

Spectators come to watch the best players in the world play at their best, and pay good money to do so. Surely a good course well-managed will produce enough degree of difficulty to test the best. I guess the TV companies want drama, artificial or not, and their money speaks loudest.

I won't be watching it and I don't much care who wins it. Bring on THE Open, where the players will be given a very stern test on an immaculately presented course where all the difficulty will be of a natural variety.
Augusta National, take a bow 08:56am on 14 Apr 2009 Definitely agree with SomearBlog, par 5s should only be reachable in 2 if a player hits a couple of really great shots. Sadly, US TV audiences get bored if nobody is shooting really low scores, so don't see any likelihood of this being changed any time soon. A major championshp should test every aspect of a player's game, and I think Augusta was just a bit too accessible this week. On the plus side, it made for cracking Sunday night viewing.

Hats off to the players who reached the play-off, and I must say I'm glad Tiger missed out. Wonderful player, but just leaves me cold how the cameras follow his every movement, including his now incessant spitting, scowling when he misses a putt, and his general bad mood when he's not winning. It's a game for goodness sake, just wish he'd relax and enjoy it.

Can't agree with Luggy about Scott Brown being the most overrated player ever seen on these shores - that accolade surely belongs to Barry Ferguson.

It was a poor excuse for a cup final. Surely when you have a derby in a cup final, it has to be worth going all out to win. As it stands, Celtic probably don't have to be anything more than average to take the title, as Rangers don't seem to have it in them.

Still, hope we turn over the 'tic at the weekend.
Moving on from Woods's absence 1:22pm on 16 Jul 2008 Come 5 o'clock on Sunday, I doubt whether the winner will care a jot about whether Woods is there or not. And neither, I suspect, will the vast majority of on-course spectators and millions watching on TV. THE Open is the greatest tournament in the world, and there will be thrills, spills, and excitement in spadefuls. The eventual winner will be whoever tames the conditions, gets the breaks at the right time, and sinks a putt or two.

Hopefully we'll see a European winner (Westwood, Garcia, Jimenez anyone?) or Big Ernie.

Personally, I can hardly wait.
