Supreme Westwood provides perfect Dubai finale 7:17pm on 22 Nov 2009 Can I be the first on this blog to say a massive "Well done, Lee". I've followed his career since he first arrived on the pro scene, and I have always wanted him to win above anyone else. I sat enthralled this morning watching some truly stunning golf. I sincerely hope this catapults him into the major winners circle next year. I have one question for him if he sees this: How on earth do you hit your driver so well? Truly awesome.
Capello's World Cup contenders 2:27pm on 15 Oct 2009 Phil, you can't just say "we'll have to agree to disagree" anout Beckham. You started this blog and included in it your view that he should not go (no doubt based on a reasoned argument). Many posters here have given very good rationale why he should go. Surely you owe it to the blog to either meticulously refute these reasons or (less likely I know) agree that you were wrong to suggest he is not good enough for England in South Africa.

As I said, I don't think there are too many (there are always some, though) who would agree with you. Rooney is a fantastic player who can turn a game in an instant. His one slight weakness for me is that he sometimes struggles to thread a pass to a team mate in and around the opposition's penalty area. If he could improve that for next summer, who knows what we could achieve.

Rooney not in the starting line-up - don't think there will be many who agree with that one. Hargreaves average at best - ha ha! Ben Foster only Championship stanfard - he has a bit to learn on kicking but his shot-stopping is right up there (and always has been). I'm surprised you didn't take the opportunity to slate Brown and Carrick while you were at it, and you even missed the opportunity to lambast Rio - shame on you.

Phil, does this not mean that they should be ON the list at this stage, with the potential to be crossed off if not fit, rather than OFF the list with the possibility of going if they are fit? This may sound like semantics but I feel they have plenty of time to prove their fitness over the next 8 months or so.
Capello's World Cup contenders 09:36am on 15 Oct 2009 To classify Joe Cole and Owen Hargreaves as "outsiders" is strange to say the least. Both were guaranteed starters before their injuries (and critically are proven at this level). The only thing that will stop them being on the plane is how well they recover from injury. Now while it is quite possible neither will be the same player again, it is equally plausible that they could recover comnpletely, which would make them highly likely to go, at least in my book.

As for Beckham, I would take him for the simple reason that he offers something different from the flank and could turn a game on its head. Those who claim he can't last 90 minutes are repeating an often quoted myth - where's their proof of this? Allied with his passion for playing for England, I think he should definitely go (and I see no reason why he shouldn't start).

Michael Owen - would stand a chance of going if he gets enough games and goals for United, but I can't really see it. Capello won't take him, in my view.

Goalkeepers - I've never really been sure why we need to take 3. The likelihood of 2 being injured is relatively low, and if we took 2 and 1 was injured I think FIFA would allow a replacement to be called in anyway. I would take James and Green (would rather Green was 1st choice).

Finally I can't see Jack Rodwell being anywhere near the squad at the moment. He needs a blistering season to get there, but that's a very long shot.

Premier League & England Q&A 6:18pm on 24 Sep 2009 Can't say I agree with those who think Rooney would be the biggest miss of any single player for United, Chelsea, Liverpool or Arsenal. If we're talking about his goals being missed I think there are plenty of other goal scorers in the team. If we're talking about the rest of his game I firmly believe SAF has the players in the squad with enough ability and imagination to cover in the event of Rooney's absence. Even without Ronaldo and Tevez I think United's squad is very strong.

Personally I think if Gerrard was absent from Liverpool he would be missed the most - his understanding with Torres would be a big blow for them.

Oh, and as for Beyond the Pale's always United-negative comments, he is the sort of poster who can never be taken seriously but brings shame on the respectable supporters of his club. Unfortunately these blogs are infested by this sort of poster.
