Galbally 2:12pm on 20 Aug 2009 I note that 'Culture Minister Upset' has gone but 'Sports minister' remains. The GMU interview made it very clear that neither Barry McElduff nor Nelson McCausland were speaking as committee chair or Minister respectively.

Something else you might wish to watch, Mark. Some councillors might be tempted to sell off 'surplus' council assets cheaply to their associates in the private sector during the next few years.

The DFM travelled on an unscheduled crossing on a quiet August Monday on a publicly subsidised life-line ferry.There appeared to be no OFMDFM staff or other SF elected representatives. Martin and the Minders were too late to appear as a support act in the week-end's 'Rathlin Rave'.
Sinn Fein's Southern Discomfort 00:14am on 04 Aug 2009 Mark, while you were travelling south the deputy First Minister was travelling north. His little heralded visit to Rathlin Island and to Corrymeela today probably got very little MSM attention:

John Nevin had only been in the USA for a few years. He was on the losing side here in 1798.
What happened in the 1859 Revival? 12:45pm on 01 Mar 2009 This piece reminded me of John Nevin's letter from Tennessee in 1804:

"You complain of a declension of religion in me which I may, with shame, acknowledge in part, but such religion as we have here none of you have ever seen. I was yesterday at a Sacrament (and exercise as they call it) but not so bad as some other meetings I have been at. We have them here for days as if dead being struck down; Others break into the greatest raptures of prayer, the Minister being obliged to quit preaching; and at their meetings you can see them dancing, running, jumping, jerking and twitching like a person in a violent convulsive fit. With praying, singing, and shouting glory glory as loud as they can bawl, and wringing and clapping their hands and such conduct as is rarely seen in religious worship, and I wish it may be by the direction of Heaven. In my present attempt it is as far beyond my tongue and pen to describe as you may think I am beyond anything you have ever seen, and although it hath alarmed me yet I cannot approve of it as God is a God of order and not of confusion."

The DRD website has different problems:

"The Department for Regional Development's website has been experiencing technical difficulties over the past number of weeks and we are currently only able to provide a limited service whilst we continue to resolve all of our difficulties."

This message has been up for months!!

The Rathlin ferry investigations report doesn't get a press release or a front page mention; it's tucked away in publications.

The DRD Measure Investment Proposal for public transport had some very interesting information about proposals for the Rathlin ferry service. It went AWOL but a copy was made by Google. I've put it on to Scribd - in the public interest.
