Irish No under scrutiny 8:06pm on 25 Jun 2008 I find it very interesting how many of my fellow Brits (most probably members of the Murdock voting block) feel as though the UK would lose power over itself if it pooled powers with other members of the EU. If the UK were not a member of the EU then very quickly the USA, Russia, China and India would dictate trade terms which the UK would have no choice but to accept. The multinational companies (such as Murdock's interests) would very quickly demand favourable tax rules or they will move abroad and the decisions effecting the future of humanity such as climate change would have almost zero input from the UK government - is this the control over your own affairs you claim that withdrawal from the EU will give you?
Treaty puzzle not yet solved 12:25pm on 21 Jun 2008 SufforkBOY, calm down, you need to look at things from a more factual point of view.

1/ The EU do not decide if the UK holds a referendum, that's the job of the UK government. Research before you blame.

2/ The polling figures you claim are just made up in your mind aren't they? Struggling to understand how people could have a different opinion to you? That's the path to true ignorance. The BBC published some polling data the other day; I think the number of people here in the UK that wanted a referendum was in the 60s% (not 80% as you claim). The people who would vote ‘No’ was about 40% (not 70% as you claim) and yes about 34%.
First audience figures in for Euro 2008 12:38pm on 14 Jun 2008 I will no doubt get shouted down for this but to be honest I am enjoying this tournament so much more because England are not in it. There are no drunken yobs strolling the street singing the national anthem and there are no 'animals' kicking in bus stops because England has lost. I don't have to wince every time I see a tabloid newspaper declaring war on another nation simply because they dared to play better than the three lions.

Bring back Steve McClaren and long may England not qualify for tournaments.
Irish No sparks EU crisis 8:23pm on 13 Jun 2008 Don't assume that just because the Irish decision was based on a referrendum it is more important that a parliamentary vote in another EU country.............. posters with the Eurovision Turkey asking people to vote 'no' because Ireland were knocked out of a singing competition would not back up such a claim.

To clarrify, I do accept Irelands opinion that it has decided what it wants to do with respect to the Lisbon Treaty however Ireland must also accept the opinion of the other 18 countries that have passed the treaty and decide what it wants to do with respect to the EU.

The other countries where it has passed should be allowed to move forward with the treaty whilst Ireland decides whether it wants to withdraw from the EU completely, get some amendments made to the treaty or obtain some opt outs from the political aspects of the EU similar to Danemark.

I know that you're a busy man and the last thing you want to do is work late into the night but I would have really enjoyed reading your analysis of the polling data after the polls closed at 10pm.
