Ivan's death 1:58pm on 25 Feb 2009 Whatever you may feel about politics- be you a Labour, Conservative, Lib-Dem etc. supporter- it is of no consequence today. The Camerons deserve the condolences of the nation today as does any family in their position.

There should be no resent towards the attention they are receiving; it is after all expected that their family events will receive coverage that the normal working family does not. Job or class does not affect what is a terrible tragedy.

The cancellation of PMQ's was completely justified- the show will go on but only after an appropriate break. No one feels like attacking and defending the government today and it is right that has been suspended.

And to Nick Robinson, of course he should be able to blog on it. It is, after all, a news item on which he feels he can blog his, and wider political reaction. There should be no need to present a topic to ensure wild, opposing debate. If the polticians are taking a break- so can we.

Deepest sympathies to the Cameron family- my prayers are with you.
Language of the downturn 9:27pm on 18 Feb 2009 I had been wondering where Mr Robinson has been as it's been a little while since he's posted a blog entry- apparently he's at Old Trafford tonight for the football the lucky boy!
By-election reactions 2:28pm on 23 May 2008 There most likely won't be a leadership contest because the possible contenders are all too aware that they will be consigned to another failed leader after the election in 2010. Most likely, the Milibands and Balls' of this world will wait until the Conservatives win by a landslide in the next election and then challenge Brown, creating the image of a fresh start and new direction. Opposition was always more fun anyway...
How big? 12:23pm on 23 May 2008 It should be simple for Labour, some of their MPs have grasped it but others haven't- with Gordon Brown as leader, Labour will be slaughtered at the next general election (May 2010 we'll assume)

The only issue for Labour should be who? There will be a lot of pressure for the likes of David Miliband and Ed Balls to run for party leader but they may feel that the party is doomed to defeat in 2010 anyway so why tarnish their name?

Well, there is one reason. Because the country's needs come above those of a career politician. I just hope that someone has the 'Ed' to step up and challenge Gordon if the situation arises, instead of paddling along to the next election with no improvement and no way of stopping the butchery that the general election currently looks like it will be...
Police beat up defenceless woman 11:45am on 21 May 2008 I think the police have every right to be incensed about this betrayal by the British government. Much in the same way that teachers, firefighters, nurses and other public sector workers have been let down by the state, the government has now given two fingers to one of the most important services Britain have got. It's high time that our MPs realised that the average joe is not on their parliamentary salary and gave wage rises in real terms as opposed to what amounts to a negative or ineffective rise below inflation. This will be one more nail in the coffin for Brown and Labour, that seat in Crewe is turning blue.
Publishing expenses 2:01pm on 16 May 2008 It seems clear to all that very few, if any, members of the British public have any interest whatsoever in such details as MPs addresses and those with access to their homes. But what is crucial and should be released is the details of the expenses. Purely and simply this is a contraversial issue across all sections of the floor, independant of party indentity, and the British public deserve to know which MPs have been shamelessly and knowlingly exploiting the system. It could be an embarassing time for MPs but rather than stalling and stammering about when the FOI request will be fulfilled, they need to accept that they are accountable to the public, a public which seems increasingly concerned that all parties are out of touch and far removed from the average working man.
