A few points about my article 1:13pm on 14 Oct 2009 voidifremoved - stop quoting the IPCC (or its' thousands of unknown scientists). They are a political body, not a scientific one.

Many of the contributing scientists are at odds with how their data has been used by the IPCC and some of the 'headline' report items (the Hockey Stick graph) have been completely and utterly discredited.

There are many scientists who disagree with the MMGW scenario and many who agree. To dismiss the 'sceptics' simply because of their stance is rather pathetic.

You also use wikipedia as a source of fact. That says it all to me and is a sad reflection of how the research carried out by scientists over the years has been completely undermined by an on-line encyclopaedia created by pretty much anyone who feels like contributing, but controlled by a few evangelists.

The Antarctic ice is getting thicker, the climate is cooling and still people haven't woken up to the lie.

They are both scientists with equal validity when their research is being displayed.

You are absolutely correct in reporting that none of the models predicted the cooling over the last decade. That can only mean one thing - the models are wrong and should therefore be removed from any debate until they can successfully model the future (an easily provable thing to do).

Using any opinions or reports from the Hadley Centre may be problematic - they only have one reason to exist, and that is to support the governments pro-warming stance. If they announced there was no problem ,they would be closed - simples.

There has always been cooling and warming. Our trace amounts of CO2 are statistically insignificant and it's about time at least one BBC writer broke the current evangelical trend.

Well done for sticking your head above the parapet. Now watch as the ecomaniacs declare you a heretic and call for your head! They will question your parentage, your sanity, your professional credentials - but none of them will present you with any evidence that you are wrong.
Chelsea will suffer if transfer ban stands 1:09pm on 04 Sep 2009 Real Madrid and other European teams have carried massive debt for years while going on spending sprees to 'buy' Champions League trophies. English clubs get into debt and UEFA want to change the rules.

European clubs have been diving for years and exported the trait here. Now we have it, UEFA want to target English clubs.

Big European clubs have been stealing young players for years and now Chelsea are targeted by FIFA.

Hooliganism is rife in European clubs yet any sign of trouble from English fans is met by threats from UEFA.

When big European clubs won loads of trophies using imported players, this was fine. As soon as English clubs started dominating the Champions League, both UEFA and FIFA threatened restrictions.

Feel sorry for Chelsea in this case as a loophole in FIFA regulations allowed it to happen. As always, FIFA wouldn't dream of fixing the problem, just attack those who use it. If Blatter wants ethics in football, he ought to look closely at how he has managed to keep getting voted in for the last 200 years (or so it feels).

After 3 or 4 games it is clearly too early for any predictions.
Man Utd will play badly until Xmas but will scrape wins like they did against Arsenal. Chelsea look strong so far, but wait till it gets a bit cold and the Africans disappear. Liverpool will get stronger as the season progresses and Arsenal will drop points when they come up against the battlers and the other top 4. Spurs will drop away as always, Villa likewise and Man City will have a strange series of losses sometime around Xmas which will put them below the top four.

My prediction - top 3 will be Liverpool, Utd and Chelsea in no particular order and Arsenal fourth. Not based on current form which at this time of year is meaningless, but based on squads. After 4 games last season Utd were in a terrible position but ended up winning it so nothing is too predictable.

Another international break, the end of the transfer window and the heady optimism of the football fan. Isn't life great!
Benitez must blank out Ferguson 5:46pm on 18 May 2009 No Man Utd fan is remotely interested in what Rafa says just as no Liverpool fan is remotely interested in what Fergie has to say.

Likewise, Rafa couldn't care less that football journalists think he is wrong for standing up to Fergie. Rafa cares for one thing and one thing only - Liverpool Football Club. No journalist, opposition mafia (Sam and Fergie) or opinionated players (Keane) will sway him from his cause of restoring Liverpool's position in the Premiership and Europe.

Rafa rightly congratulated Man Utd for winning the Premiership this year. He does not need to individually congratulate Fergie, each member of his back room staff and every player as it is the club that won the trophy, not any specific individual.

Altogether, Phil, a decent article. However, the onus is not on Rafa to kowtow to Fergie - ever. He will not care if you think he has 'lost' the war of words. An interesting point is that no 'journo' stated that Fergie lost the war of words when we thrashed them at Old Trafford. If they had beat us by the same margin at Anfield, journalists would have destroyed Rafa for his petulance in speaking against Fergie. It would seem that the usual journalistic bias stands squarely with Fergie - when he fails, it is a blip. When he succeeds, it is genius.

I suppose that success in the long term will dictate opinion, but I know that Rafa has had more success in his first five years than Fergie did.

Anyway, congratulations to Man Utd on becoming as successful as Liverpool in the league.
Why the Code's not it for Wada 11:43pm on 11 May 2009 Surely the biggest issue here is that WADA is trying to implement a 'one size fits all' approach which is blatantly unrealistic. A professional footballer, for instance, may be 'in competition' twice - or more - a week. A sprinter may only compete every month or two. A footballer would therefore receive less benefit from 'out of competition' cheating (where they spend a minor percentage of their time) than a sprinter. WADA's current system is clearly geared up for individual athletic sports.

For a footballer who qualifies for the next round of a European trophy to have to give their whereabouts three months in advance is impossible and plainly stupid. They may only know a week in advance. They may be dropped from the team or transferred out.

Each sports governing organisation should be responsible for formulating an effective anti doping policy, with WADA providing technical expertise in implementing and overseeing it.

Leave WADA to carry out its' nonsense 'whereabouts' policy and you will soon see professionals taking them to court and undermining the whole process.
Liverpool on road to glory 09:42am on 10 May 2009 Take Drogba out of Chelsea and their results were poor.
Take Ronaldo out of Man Utd and their results were poor.
Take both Gerrard and Torres out of Liverpool and our results were poor in January leading to a seies of draws.

The fact is, Rafa has improved the squad and the clubs relative league position pretty much every year. This is to be applauded and recognised. Along the way we have consistently qualified for the Champions League - something we strived for under previous managers. We have been to 2 Champions League finals - with a win in one of them. An FA Cup win along the way adds to the trophies.

People talk of the money Rafa has spent, but he has been consistently outspent by both Utd and Chelsea, and Torres remains our most expensive signing (at around £23 million). Compare this to the price of Man Utd or Chelsea's players and it becomes apparent how much 'catching up' Rafa has had to do.

I am delighted with our manager and the progress he has made. He has managed to get AF well and truly riled and will continue to push for the league title. He continues to ensure Liverpool remain a major force in football and the future is looking very bright indeed.

Our narrow-minded, sad little villagers need to get a grip on themselves and realise that there's nothing they can do about it, unless they fancy breaking the law by obstructing traffic.

...and the return of Torres is equally uplifting for Liverpool.
Benitez secures contract victory 12:32pm on 20 Mar 2009 goldenelnino9 - couldn't agree more and it is nice to see some intelligent points (and the voice of reason).

Rafa has got closer to the premiership leaders every single year. He has taken us to 2 European Cup Finals and a semi final in his 4 years in charge and won us the FA Cup.

He has done all this whilst having to change almost every player at the club. Fergie, Wenger and the Chelsea conveyer have had the luxury of adding one or two players at almost any cost. Rafa has generally bought and sold very well and managed to restock the academy at the same time.

We are now considered the best team in Europe and, if progression continues, we'll get closer and closer to the top of the Premiership.

Many of our draws this year have been due to an inability to put the ball in the back of the net even though we dominate early parts of the game. This is followed by a drop in pace and a drop in confidence as the game goes on, followed by a late push. It is clear that, with only one top class striker (missing for most of the season) we are going to struggle against teams who park the bus.
Looking at Man Utd without Ronaldo and Liverpool without Torres and you can see that Liverpool's results are far superior. It is just a shame that we had to do without Torres for so much of this season.

Still, I am delighted that Rafa has signed and I look forward to the continued progression of the team. With any luck we'll beat Chelsea and Barcelona and meet Man Utd in the final. I feel another 4-1 coming.
