Sport on BBC HD 12:51pm on 29 Aug 2009 After the debacale of not covering the Open Championship in HD, the BBC is again treating another of it's sporting crown jewels with contempt. This time it's the Rugby League Challange Cup final, which is NOT being shown in HD. Why does the BBC bother with either HD, or bidding for major sport if it can't compete with the covereage of other broadcasters.

We get Wimbledon in HD, we get football in HD, so why on earth in 2009 can the BBC not manage to cover other MAJOR sporting events in HD. HD has been around for a number of years now, so there can really be no excuse.

The BBC is joke of an organisation. It is trying to spread itself too thinly and compete against every media outlet going. As a result it does most things poorly. Not showing major sporting events is just an example of how they are unable to compete properly in the modern broadcasting world.

James Murdoch may be right.
A-Z of the Open 2:00pm on 14 Jul 2009 I believe the BBC is now promising that the 2010 Open will be in HD! Maybe the camera's get a nose bleed if they have to go up north - happy to stay in London covering Wimbledon.

Only reason the Beeb shows the Masters in HD is that is not the host broadcaster - really shows us up to the world taking the BBC feed that the event is not in HD - it's hardly a new technology!

Must go, Doctors is on in HD soon!
A-Z of the Open 8:34pm on 13 Jul 2009 H should have been for HD - what better way to view the premier golf tournement in the world than in glorious HD. Having seen the premier tennis tournement in HD, all golf fans will be getting excited at the prospect of the Open in HD.

And then the realisation kicks in and you learn that the BBC can't be bothered to show the event in HD! Are well, at least my 2 year old can enjoy "In The Night Garden" in all it's HD splendour - he really appreciates it!

So maybe N should read - Not in HD!
Sport on BBC HD 8:17pm on 13 Jul 2009 My 2 year old nephew really apprecites having "in The Night Garden" available in HD - he often comments on the clarity of colour and the fact that you can see every blade of plastic grass.

No doubt the BBC are keeping the youngsters happy for the inevitable licence fee debate in 2030!

Sarcasm aside, it's time to stop the excuses - if the BBC can't supply sport in high def like it's rivals, then it is time to give up the rights to a proper broadcaster. I am sure it could spend the money it saves on another US import like Heroes or The Wire to entertain us at 11pm on a Monday evening!

Another incomparable Ashes Test 10:30am on 13 Jul 2009 Re: #17 - Games like this are actually the reason why Test Cricket is the ultimate form of the sport. The game tests every element of a players game - application, dedication, talent to name but a few. Ponting showed KP up for the show pony he is by understanding the situation and batting with great inteligence. He may be an appalling captain (Johnson get 20+ overs and Monty having to face the part time pie chucker North) but he is a great batsman.

If youngsters don't understand the intrinsic value in the game then it is a reflection of them more than the game. Test cricket has been around for over 100 years, and will be around for a lot longer. 16,000 fans cheering on a draw demonstates that it is not about the result, but the situation. Test cricket is the game - without it there would be no T20 or One Day whackabout rubbish.
Another incomparable Ashes Test 08:44am on 13 Jul 2009 Great coverage yesterday, and was great to see an England side showing some real heart to hang on for the draw. Also pleased to see they did not celebrate like the Aussies at Old Trafford in 05.

Have to agree with justmycorrectopinion though - Strauss and England showed a complete lack of class with the 12th Man/physio antics at the end. We did fantastically well to hang on, but we were outplayed for the whole game. If we lose the lose with dignity - blatant time wasting is not on. We complained when Pakistan did it in 2000 and the West Indies in the early 90's, but then resort to it ourselves.

It soured a great rearguard action, and Ponting was spot on - it was very ordinary.
