So come on...what did you think about while the iPM kettle boiled? 06:30am on 27 Jun 2009 Listening over the net on a cool, muggy afternoon in Melbourne, I tried to work out if the kettle you broadcast was gas or electric, and concluded it must be on a gas stove, and there was probably some calcium deposit on the inside of the kettle causing the popping sounds.

This made me think that I should change over from my usual electric to my ancient gas kettle since gas is 4 times cheaper per energy unit, but then again, the gas requires the use of a match which puts phosphorus in the kitchen air and is more bothersome than pushing the button on the electric.

And then there's the issue that the gas kettle doesn't turn itself off, which is a nuisance if I go to the other end of the house and forget about it and return to see a glowing red kettle with no water left in it!

Hmmm. I think I'll stick with the electric. But I do feel a certain nostalgia for the old gas kettles.
