Christmas Movie Magic 11:12am on 13 Dec 2009 Now that would be a great Christmas day. Having the 3 classic Mel Brookes Gene Wilder comdies on. The Producers, Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstien.

I am sorry Bill, happy to hear your opinion but I think your Mel Brookes/Gene Wilder comment is just off with the fairies. Wilder was a great physical actor who did comedy especially in the 60's/70's. Look at the comedy of the 00's and I doubt you will find a comedy close to any that Brookes/Wider made.

Thinking about it, probably the 00's, I am finding it hard to think of any really hilarious laugh a minute comedies. The only comedy I can think that comes anywhere close to most of the classics is Shaun of the Dead. Is it just me or has the 00's been the most unfunny decade for films?
I Mark... your homework 5:41pm on 09 Dec 2009 I do think by the time a film makes it to video or DVD most people will know whether a film is good or not. The problem is with new films where there are few reviews for the film on opening day. We all hope Avitar is going to be good but how can we be sure until the release day and then through word of mouth.

I am surprised the major film companies haven't realised that if a film tanks in America and then is set for release around the world 2 or 3 months later it is going to effect figures.

Actually can anyone tell me why so many films are released months later in Europe and the rest of the world in this day and age? I can't actually see much practical reason for it. A prime example this year being 'Up', where it felt like an eternity between its American and British release.
5 live review: Paranormal Activity 3:47pm on 30 Nov 2009 I can't see anything good about the faux-documentarie style of cinema. The Blair Witch Project is on of the dullest, unscary horror films I have ever seen and Cloverfield isn't much better.

I am not going to put myself through such tedium or cost again, though I would wish my worst enemy to see them on a continuous reel for 72 hours.

It could be that alot of Americans are dumb and just thought that the film was all true, like god and weapons of mass distruction.
Screening Room: Animation & Aardman 7:54pm on 19 Nov 2009 You must of had fools in the screening room for not thinking Mary Poppins is one of the greatest films of all time.

Another couple of films I thought of which stand out for me:

Where the Wind Blows and the Iron Giant

Both very different from the typical studio fair and both telling great and interesting stories.
Screening Room: Animation & Aardman 5:57pm on 19 Nov 2009 I have to give Fanal Fantasy The Spiret within some credit. The first time I was the film I hated it thinking that it was overblown tosh. But on second, third and forth viewing of the film I actually like the film. The story is silly but no more so than Akira, I think the animation works well and the film has dated that badly. Also it maybe annimated but the ship, set and creature design is amazing. The film is way under rated.
Weighing up Button's McLaren move 09:14am on 19 Nov 2009 Next year will be rather interesting. I think JB is better than a lot of critics give him credit and although the driving styles of JB and Hamilton are very different, that is often the case in F1 between team mates. They get on well off the track and it has been shown already that JB can work with his team mate in a competitive environment.

A lot of the problems with Alonso was that he wanted to be the A1 driver in the team and have all the support which McLaren wouldn't seem to give him.

I am not convinced that Mercedes will be the top team going into next year. Most of the other teams have been planning next season for quite some time and I think next season might be very close between the several teams. Oddly I think that Red Bull will have a very strong car next season, they arguably had the fastest car at the end of this season, they have a very strong driver line up and the changes in spec are not going to be as big in many ways, though the new fuel regulations will make a big difference to the weight of cars at the beginning on next season.

As for Kimi, I think him taking next season off will be good for him. He is a great racer when he wanted to be but he seemed to have lost his motivation in Ferrari. Hopefully he will go away and have some fun, rallying and then if he wants comes back a better driver. Though I am not sure he will as I don't think he will earn as much money as he did for Ferrari

The Best Christmas Movie Ever 5:51pm on 13 Nov 2009 Gremlins has to come at the top for me. The happy little balls of fun, bringing joy and Christmas cheer to everyone.

LA Confidential bring seasonal cheer and shotguns to everyone

Personally I think the next Batman film should involve Batman taking out Santa. who is obviously rather dodgy charactor, who enjoys sneaking down chimneys, leaving presents for the little children of Gotham. Also Santa would have a lot of henchmen elves for Batman to batter.
Bride Wars Revisited 12:19pm on 12 Nov 2009 I still have to say X Men origins: Wolverine should be on the list. Terrible effects, naff action sequences, bad scipt and awful dialogue. I would prefer to cheese grate my testicals and then sticking them into a bowl of salt and lemon juice than see that film again.
The future of cinema: This Is It 12:53pm on 06 Nov 2009 I have to disagree with Mark about 3D. It is a part of cimema, just so far it hasn't been done very well. Fingers crossed Avitar will be a great film, where the 3D compliments the film. 3D has been around for a long time and need to be used in a grown up manner.

My old film lecturer always said that they best directors, highlighted the story and enhanced the actors performance, not their own visual flare (a charge I put on Tarantino). 3D should be the same.
