Relief all round as Silverstone secures British GP 4:21pm on 07 Dec 2009 No matter which circuit hosted the event, I am thrilled that the British Grand Prix is now safe. I was always optimistic, and the F1 calendar would be very poor without it; after all, this is where it all began.

I love F1 moving into new and splendid arenas, which are most impressive, but F1 needs the old along with the new. Silverstone, Monza, Monaco and Spa-Francorchamps are jewels - age old jewels - that cannot and must not be lost from F1.
Weighing up Button's McLaren move 2:13pm on 22 Nov 2009 This has the potential to be the ultimate "dream team", but it can also go very wrong. We'll soon find out when racing commences.

A team built very much around Lewis Hamilton will have to adapt to Button's VERY different approach and driving style. They may both be British, but as racers, they are miles apart.
What Mercedes buy-out of Brawn could mean 11:15am on 18 Nov 2009 Well Kimi Raikkonen has just announced that he is taking a "sabbatical" from F1. He will try and land a rallying drive and aims to return to F1 in 2011.

Now then;

* this means that the likelyhood of Jenson Button landing a McLaren seat alongside Lewis Hamilton looks all the more likely...

* and what will ACTUALLY happen to Raikkonen? Will he fall in love with rallying too much?

* will he do what his Finnish predecessor Mika Hakkinen did and turn sabbatical into retirement?

This is very interesting...
What Mercedes buy-out of Brawn could mean 8:55pm on 17 Nov 2009 This is very interesting, and the 2010 F1 season is starting to shape up nicely. As much as it is a highly attractive driver line-up, Hamilton and Button at McLaren could become uneasy.

They are both world champions, but McLaren is by now very much built around Lewis Hamilton, meaning he could well get the better out of the car. This would mean an angry Jenson, and after the 2007 saga, this is not something McLaren will want.

Saying they are both competetive together - it would be a cracker. I'm hoping for the latter.

Disappointed to see the Brawn name disappear after just one year, but boy, that name will be remembered...

Toyota exit shifts F1 balance of power 09:36am on 05 Nov 2009 Well surprise, surprise, as soon as Toyota pull out, Renault are now wieghing up their options. At this rate, we're still only going to have 10 teams for 2010!

Tbh, I'd rather Toyota stay than Renault - Toyota don't cause some of the biggest scandals in the sport for example. On the contrary, Toyota have been relatively well behaved (aside from a minor exchange of information with Ferrari all the way back in 2004).

Infact, Toyota were close to wins on a number of occasions since 2005, but they've always been hit by foul luck. I would have liked to have seen Toyota in a year when, for once, things went their way.
Toyota exit shifts F1 balance of power 4:20pm on 04 Nov 2009 This is a shame. I always saw Toyota as the better of the two Japanese teams. Well, Toyota are always associated with unfulfilled promise, but Honda were infact 10 times worse. And BMWs exit was no surprise.

But this one is, I never saw Toyota as a quitter. I liked the team very much, and will miss them. I will also miss Kobayashi if he secures no drive.

Looks like F1 is shifting back to the privateers. I hope this means a constant reduction in costs, rather than back to the days of sheer Ferrari and McLaren dominance.
Farewell to a brilliant season - and roll on 2010 11:07am on 03 Nov 2009 Great blog Jake! I think yourself, Eddie Jordan and David Coulthard have done a fantastic job with the whole of the BBC team to make F1 a joy to watch this year. 2009 has been brilliant. Many thanks, and see you next year in Bahrain! :)
Wowed by F1's 'Arabian Las Vegas' 10:59am on 03 Nov 2009 For Christ sake, here we go with yet another stream of pessimism from F1's pessimistic fans. Brilliant.

New circuits these days are never even given a chance before being branded a failure. We must all remember that circuits that everyone seem to worship, like Monaco (winner of the dullest race of 2009 award), Silverstone (winner of the 2nd dullest race in 2009 award) and the rest were all new at one time!

F1 is being shown to new audiences to spread it's brilliance and popularity, and what better way to do it than on a fantastic looking new circuit. OK, the race wasn't the best, but it was by no means not good! It had all the ingredients there...it's not the circuit at all that's preventing good racing, it's the troublesome regs that inhibit overtaking and the like.

People seem to be constantly walking round with their noses in the air. F1 should be all about a mix the great and old, and the great and new...and give the new ones a chance.
Anxious F1 waits for president Todt to show colours 2:06pm on 23 Oct 2009 For once, I am going to be negative.

I would presonally have preferred Ari over Jean Todt.

One of the rumbling accusations over the past decade and even beyond is that the FIA have often preferred Ferrari, and they have intensified this theory over and over again. This was most notably done last year when the penalties for Ferrari and McLaren as they battled for the title were poles apart.

I'm not sure about this. F1 needs a fair president, and any person with half a brain (sadly, this exlcudes many) would not have elected a former boss of a very controversial team as president.
