The Beeb is doing a bit of navel gazing at the moment but it is asking itself the questions which tend to spoil the outcome we the punters want or need as a freethinking society.

THE TROUBLE IS IT ISNT DEMOCRATIC IN FACT IT IS CORRUPT AND SOMEONE SHOULD HAVE NOTICED THIS ABOUT 50 YEARS AGO. IT IS OF COURSE A DICTATORSHIP. Not only that but it:

The role of citizen journalism in modern democracy 11:32am on 24 Jun 2009 It would be nice if the Beeb had the courage to give the folks who are being cheated by the system a hand. You know what is wrong but you conveniently forget it when you're all picking up your salaries and spending our money. It is difficult of course but at least you could try. Litigants in person don't stand a chance, but it doesn't bother the BBC.
Should we trust the regulators? 6:50pm on 21 Jun 2009 Mervyn King in the Mansion House speech 17.06.2009 spoke of what powers are required to regulate the banks and wrongly claimed that there is no support in this country and no case for excessively bureaucratic regulation. How wrong can he be? Just consider the public fury of the bonus payments schemes to encourage excessive lending, excessive pension taking, excessive repossessions of poor peoples homes, excessive bonus payments for debt collection units at banks to collect court judgements against poor people who have done no wrong except be victims of the bankers creating fictitious markets through their excessive lending, etc etc, Mr King perhaps should spend a couple of years living in poverty he may then realise that there is no other way to regulate the banks than by firm policing. Human nature being what it is if you show a bankers a way of making a quick buck he will bend the rules in whatever direction is necessary to make it including inflating the economy.

When Gordon brown came into power as Chancellor he tried to change banking regulation by removing this from the Bank of England and set up a new regulator we now know as the Financial Services Authority. The Toothless Authority might be a better name, it is run by bankers to regulate bankers; what could be more preposterous? Gordon browns idea was good in theory but what was wrong was the personnel and their backgrounds.

What is needed is for the Financial Services Authority as a whole to cease as a regulator with the same head count being given to the Police Force Economics Crime Unit made up of people from accountancy backgrounds and police backgrounds with powers to prosecute excessiveness by any banker of whatever rank level. Only then would banks and bankers learn to behave themselves and learn that the purpose of retail banking is simply to move the peoples money around with only modest profits being taken. Investment banking should be completely separate from retail banking being carried out by the old fashioned term of the merchant bank. Anyone who wanted to speculate could do so in stocks and shares through stockbrokers and merchant banks, this should not and must not be done through retail banks.

Greedy Banks such as Northern Rock and Lloyds TSB and RBS that have run themselves into such trouble through excessiveness should have been allowed to fail and the retail side of them sold off to the Post Office to provide small banking services throughout the country in villages, towns whatever to provide retail banking services to the poorer people of the nation. This would fuel the economy because the majority of the populace are the poorer people who en masse would each be able to spend their money. The psychology of the mass populace would thus increase, depression would get less, the people would see a better future for them and thus work harder to achieve their goals and increase their practical skills. Mr King should thus concentrate on the poor of the nation and how to stimulate each and every one of them into spending their few pounds.
