Lions ratings 10:44pm on 20 Jun 2009 Monye looked second rate - not a bit of footballing ability. If Byrne is fit, would start with him at full back next week and Kearney on the left wing. Although having had a generally poor tour, Powell may well have offered a viable option off the bench for the last quarter, particularly given the anonimity of Heaslip. Vickery was awful and in addition to his inadequacies at the scrum, gave away too many penalties in open play, his drive into a ruck from 45 degrees shown on an overhead camera was pathetic.

Disappointed in Mears who had looked in excellent fettle in the provincial games - Rees may be a decent operator in the loose, but a question mark remains against his throwing. Adam Jones was solid and caps by far his best season. O' Connell again quiet and leadership must be questioned.

Despite reasonable game, Phillips' service is still too slow and cumbersome - Dwayne Peel should have been out there!!

Lions taking shape with lessons to learn 11:40pm on 11 Jun 2009 A lot of posters are sayng that Kearney hasn't had a fair run compared to Byrne whilst others are undecided about the no. 11 slot. The answer's simple - play Kearney at 11! He played there regularly for Leinster whilst Dempsey was first choice fullback ditto for Ireland.

A player of his quality should be included in the test team somewhere but he is currently not ahead of Byrne in the fullback standings. He is however a proven player on the left wing.

Geech should follow the lead of the great French sides of the 80s and 90s when they included great fullbacks on the wings when they could not command a place at their preferred position - Serge Blanco played his early internationals as a right wing!
Lions taking shape with lessons to learn 11:49pm on 10 Jun 2009 My thoughs exactly, ianbiara - should be on the beeb. ROG kicked away possesion too easily and forwards are guilty of being too slow getting to the breakdown. Easy meat for the Boks if this continues.

On the plus side, Mears looked impressive in open play, threw accurately and has done enough to secure test spot. My test XV:
