just because it may be physically impossible to send that many messages by typing them out, it is possible to send the same message to many multiple people at the same time, This is why we need clarification on 'unlimited' because if anyone tried this in the UK the networks would come down on you like a ton of bricks.

i've only ever gone over my message allowance of 500 once, and by sending another 132 messages it cost me an extra £13 the limit of 500 is not realistic for the prices of the tariffs in addition to paying for the actual phone itself. With Phones like the iPhone and apple influencing the networks with the american model (24 month contracts, in addition of paying for the phone) Plus Best Buy and carphone warehouse also enforcing this model, i think the least we should get is the perks such as the word unlimited means unlimited, not 'oh upto a certain point that you shouldnt use, but if you do we might charge you for it...' The UK model for mobile phone contracts has worked so well in the past, is it just that people have embraced 18 month contracts so easily that theyre now moving onto 24 month contracts. (it would also help if they made phones like they used to so they actually lasted for the length of the contract too, but thats a different argument for another day)
Orange's 'unlimited' iPhone 10:06am on 03 Nov 2009 With the advent of phones like the iPhone and many of the phones on Android etc, All the networks need to look at their Terms and conditions and amend them accordingly. Unlimited and never meant unlimited with any of the Major UK networks. Take Text Messaging for example, a couple of years ago when the Unlimited SMS bundles came about if you took a look at the T & Cs there was the amendment that it wasn't actually unlimited and it actually came in at a fair usage policy of 3000 messages. This is obviously to limit the strain on the network and not to bring it crashing down (since it already seems at breaking point on some networks). However in the US, Unlimited means unlimited and i've seen reports of people (grown people and teenagers) using in excess of 160,000 text messages in a month. My friends in the US regularly use 5000 in a month with no bother from the networks.

I believe that O2's policy is a 250MB or 500MB fair usage policy on the iPhone, i rarely use 100MB myself as im usually connected to wifi. And with the emergence of things like Spotify and TV catch up i think that 500MB or even 750Mb could get eaten up easily. Also the thing about using your phone as a modem has been a feature on mobile phones for years, its only recently with 3G speeds that people have sued it and with the furore that the iPhone supported it and O2 charging £15 a month for the privilege is just ridiculous, especially since i can do it on my 3 year old sony ericsson no problem.

Also disappointed by oranges decision to have the 500 text message limit, why not have an option on the the £45 a month tariff for 900 messages and 1000 texts, or 600 messages and unlimited texts - i know you can get a bolt-on equivalent probably for £7.50 or whatever but im sure if they included it in a plan with a more substantial discount like other phones they'd have one over on O2, its fine paying £45 per month to get the phone for free but 1200 minutes and 500 texts is ridiculous
Will T'Orange be good for shoppers? 3:39pm on 08 Sep 2009 Not even a single mention of the iPhone and its exclusivity deal with O2... i can see this being good for customers coverage, the things that bother me about this deal are what parts of their exclusive offers will the customers lose? for instance, Orange has some great things like Orange Wednesdays, the Animal tariffs and somewhat a rare thing but they still have some 12 month contracts, T-Mobile have the flext tariffs with the set amount of units, and the deals they have on the weekend with pay as you go.

Hopefully they have a healthy mix of the two, and this means they have a wider range of exclusive handsets
What can music teach telly? 10:41pm on 28 Aug 2009 Looking at the previous posts, the general consensus is that people are quite happy to pay for 'illegal' downloads, at a fair price and on a worldwide timetable, I Myself feel like many others, if i already pay for my TV licence then what is the problem with me downloading it at a later date and watching it at my own leisure, Its exactly the same as recording it on VHS or DVD or to PVR and watching it, and if i get it a few weeks early (such as heroes) or 6 months early (such as scrubs on E4) whats the difference? And if its something i enjoy i'll buy the DVD anyway, 24 starts in january but isn't available on DVD until October, wheres the justice in that?
and as someone else has mentioned, some things aren't even available on DVD like Top Gear, In the days when people work all the hours under the sun, we sometimes just aren't around to catch a programme at the scheduled time.

Not to mention a lot of programmes dont appear on UK TV for stupid amounts of time, or are scheduled at Stupid oclock on a random channel, How i met your mother has been going in america for 4 Years with the 5th Season starting next month, but E4 have just picked it up next week. Where is the sense in that?
Networks and the iPhone 12:04pm on 17 Jul 2009 I was with O2 for several years before the iPhone came along, and didnt opt for the original iPhone due to the original cost. However i did opt for the 3G and my contract is due in december, which if according to the rumors is when the other networks will get it, now while i've never had any problems with O2 if the other networks opened up the market i could see the tariffs becoming a lot better across the board (500 texts while is enough for me, on most comparable tariffs you get unlimited texts + unlimited data) plus for me, the added bonus of orange wednesdays would be a deal breaker.

My only concern is, if the rumors are true and in december Orange and Vodafone get the iPhone, i still wouldnt want to move for another 6 months because no doubt Apple are already working on a new iPhone for new summer. Plus at the moment i noticed with the N97 from Orange and Vodaphone 24 months was the default tariff option. which in my mind is just silly.
Stephen Fry on copyright 2:04pm on 13 Jul 2009 My biggest gripe is that 10-15 years ago when i was still a kid, (and i mean 8-13) no-one batted an eye-lid when you stuck a tape in the video and recorded a series week on week and then had a collection (My Nan still does). But now in the digital age where content is more accessible i cannot download an episode of 24 or House without paying extortionate iTunes fees. Or waiting for it to arrive on extortionate SKY TV or sometimes Freeview, MONTHS before it arrives in the UK (This is not always the Case, in fact 24 was a week behind the US this year)

More-so why can i not download Torchwood which aired last week so i can watch it at my own leisure and in its entirety at a time when i choose. Which i have already paid a Huge license fee for, but no-one would say a word if i bought a DVD recorder and put a disk in to record it (is this piracy?)

I always took piracy to be the Bloke down the pub, who sold dodgy DVDs someone who is copying a film then making multiple copies and making big big profits on it. These are the people the government, the ISP's and the Industry should be going after. Not the people who have busy lives or want to watch something when they feel like it, or the kids in the bedrooms, who share a song with their mates, Like the artist then go out and spend hundreds of pounds on iTunes, Tickets and Merchandise to make their Artists Famous...
Can O2 cope with smartphone traffic? 5:10pm on 07 Jul 2009 Luckily i find that i have 3 masts at the back of my house in the water board premises/wooded area. According to the data on the masts, they actually serve the 5 main networks, so it works out that i get a great signal in the house, and 3G signal all the time (although in the house my iPhone is connected to WiFi)

turns out there are masts all over the town i live so i get a 3G signal all over the place. it's suprising that London doesn't have great coverage considering i live in a tiny town on the east coast.

Beat me to it, i was reading through this and im thinking, ive heard this all before, then i get to the end and Skynet just screams out at me, good blog Rory, although i would like my bath to turn itself off when its to the right level and at the right temperature and send a message to my iPhone when it's done.
Apple - angering the fans? 11:41am on 09 Jun 2009 I have absolutely no qualms with O2 having a standard pricing, as many people have said if you buy a phone you're in a contract for 18 months - Fair enough. The lack of an option to upgrade without it costing the earth, especially in a credit crunch, i don't be ANY means believe i would get it for free but for me to upgrade to the 3GS it would cost 6 x £45 + the price for the handset and a new 18 month commitment, or a new 24 month commitment. Its just ridiculous the majority of people who want the 3GS already have the 3G and will be unable to upgrade without a big financial commitment behind it.
